7 week old baby only settles with Mum

So after much cajoling from my Mum and friends I went out for a drink last night and left my 7 week old baby with dad. Poor baby didn't really settle the whole night (I was sleeping in the spare room as we have a bedside crib and my friends are smokers so my hair stank of smoke and didn't want to be next to baby. Oh ok the uninterrupted sleep was also appealing!!) and is absolutely exhausted today!! My mum had also watched him in the afternoon so I could get ready and he was unsettled with her too. My question is can he really tell at 7 weeks old that they're not "mum" and be missing me? I thought he was too young for that?! Or is it just that they're not used to him and don't know his ways he likes to be settled? I figured I would let them find their own ways with him rather than dictate everything exactly the way I do it, as they will both need to look after him on their own at various points so don't want to be being controlling mother here!

I have absolutely no problem with him only settling with me, it's lovely in fact, I was just curious on whether this is really possible at this stage.

Of course they can tell who’s Mum, they have it built in them. It’s a survival thing to keep you close.

It's the smell of you they 100% know. You could try leaving a top you've worn that day with ds.

Of course they can tell who their mum is, they've lived with your smell, heartbeat, voice, etc for nearly a year. Google the fourth trimester also.

Try to leave a shirt you've worn. It works.
