5.5yr old expelled for 3 days

Hello, our little boy was expelled for 3 days today (they don't call it suspended now!!) as he has starting to hit his classmates and teachers. Three weeks ago, husband went to school and talked to the headmaster and decided upon, that if he hit a teacher or pupil, they would phone him at work as he works 2 minutes away and he would take him home from school instead of expelling him. The day we were going on holiday, the school rang to say that he kicked the headmaster, and that the school was going to expel him. My question is what do we do now? This will be on his record until he leaves school. We fully back the school in the hitting must stop, as this cannot continue in school. Any help in this one??

if this has been going on for some time the school should offer some kind of advice before like behaviour assessment, etc

Not really sure if you can do anything. the school have a right to "protect" their pupils and teachers from physical hurt. Dont like the word protect, as im sure, that a 5.5 couldnt do much harm to a adult, but you know what I mean.
Does he do it at home too, or just at school?
Good luck

The days that he goes home early should be logged by the school with the LEA.
They need to be flagged up so your son can get the help he needs.
They shouldn't be using your husband as a fall-back whenever they decide your DS has difficulties.
Have you had a meeting with the school SENCO?
Is there a pattern to his behaviour ie: does he dislike a particular lesson, or does he find playtimes or transitions from one activity to another difficult?

he could be referred to a behaviour specialist and that specialist could go to the bottom of the problem, find out why he is doing it.

please don't let this become a habit.A boy I know is always being sent home. Me and his mum think that he knows that if he misbehaves he will be sent home where he can do fun things with his nan, the school will have him in for a few hours then phone her up to pick him up. He was fine at school till feb.

dont worry too much it will be sorted out.
behaviour specialists are very good.

I used to work in a unit for children that had been expelled due to behaviours and when they first came in, always tested and thought if they played up enough they would get sent home, didnt work with us though. (apart from one boy who knocked me out!) KInda gives the child the idea that school just cant control him and so why should he behave? good luck

I hope that they are putting these exclusions in writing, if not, what they are doing is illegal.

Well here you go. We have 2 boys (1yr old is good and will play on is own) the 5.5yr old was good (but boisterous in his reception class, he did go to nursery since he was 2 and never hit another child/ teacher). My husband went to Afghanistan and it sort of started there. He returned and things returned to normal for a while. We are moving house/ school in 4 weeks and since we told him, his behaviour has changed for the worse. I asked for someone to watch him in school while husband was away to see what was making him turn from being a loving boy to someone so violent. That was over 11 months ago. I agree that pupils and staff should be protected, but if someone acted when i asked this may have been prevented a while ago. Only now is the school taking it seriously.
