Sleepy toddler

I'm not sure why it's worrying me now as he's always been a big sleeper but is it an issue/red flag of any sort for an older baby or toddler to sleep too much? My boy is 20 months and sleeps 13-14hours overnight and around a 2-2 1/2 hour nap, so he's really only awake 8 hours a day. He's a big lad (99th centile), developmentally no concerns, and energetic when he is awake. I think he may have poor vision though, not sure if that could have an impact or if there could be anything else to check. I did wonder about his thyroid as I have hypothyroidism but they check that at birth and he was fine.

That is a long time to be sleeping
You’d need to consult a health visitor about this..it could be nothing but then again it could be something
If it’s worrying you get him checked over to be sure

Usually hypothyroidism in children results in poor growth / v small and constipation.

It could just be him as all children are different but I'd maybe cross check with a gp. He sounds like he's fine when awake though?

Yes, he's fine when he's awake, doesn't seem tired and he's active and bright and only as moody as the average toddler.... He eats an amazing amount of food though.

It really does sound like it's just him but ask to be safe.

I remember a child at my sons Nursery who was notorious for sleeping lots.

My DD loves her sleep and your routine sounds similar to her.

DD is now 29 months and does 11h at night and 2h nap during the day, sometimes 2.5h if tired. The only difference now is I wake her if she goes over this so bedtimes etc are maintained.

Many of my friends with kids the same age have this situation too so I'm sure it's not too rare.

Relax and use those nap times to get some rest/me time!

Thanks for the replies, I feel a bit more reassured but will get him checked if I'm still concerned in a few months,
