I have a breast fed two month old baby boy and I am having the same old battle every night getting him to take a bottle. He has taken a bottle of expressed mmilk with no problem in the past but now refuses/spits/and screams his head off if I try now. This is stressful and depressing and tips from those with simular experiences?
No breastfeeding fanatics please I am tired and sore atm.

You say you're sore. I'm sorry to hear that. Would you want to continue to feed him if the soreness got better?

I had the same problem. At two months DS would take a bottle at night, no probs. Did this for 3 weeks each night. But then, something possessed him and he refused to take a bottle, so I tried another make, and another, and another and changed the formula. Nothing worked. Sorry to be negative but it gets better. When he got to four months he would happily take water form a beaker, so tried milk in this - didn't work but he wold take it. I then discovered a bottle/beaker in Boots and it worked!!! So keep trying, but be prepared for a long haul. Cna sympathise liked breast feeding, but it can get tto much when you are tired and your DS is hanging on for life.
Good luck

I have no experience of making unwilling babies take bottles but I know a fair bit about how to help make it not sore.

Also if it has become a battleground you need to back right off for now as the tension will have set in. I think it's really best to avoid tension over the issue of eating from very early on.

important to sort out the soreness cpenny - how long have you had this?

for the bottle is there anyone else who can give it to him - sometimes helps.

I tried my bubba on a bottle after the recommended 6 weeks and it was torture! The thing I found that worked was getting someone else to do it. I'd leave her for a couple of hours with my hubby or mum and they gave it a bash when she started crying for a feed. My midwife recommended variflo orthodontic teats which never worked. I found that the old fashionned yellow teats (probs the cheapest u can buy in Boots) worked best - she took to these straight away without protest. Well done u for expressing - it's a bugger but my bub never got any formula till she was 5 months. If u want to get her onto formula best to mix it with breatmilk at first till she gets used to the taste. I started 1 ounce to 5 of breatmilk. Hope that helps. xx

Yes he will take a formula, its just the bottle, my DH has has success so maybe thats the way to go? will try the yellow teats from boots, thanks.
Next prob is getting baby to settle with DH as he seems to need the breast and me only.

Go out of the room and leave DH and DS to it. I found that if either of my DC could hear my voice or smell me they would kick up a fuss. Nip out or have a relaxing bath while they get to know each other.

My bub was exactly the same. But she eventully started to wean herself at about 5.5 months and would take the bottle from me or her daddy and settle for either of us (at about the same time we did CC). Suppose you've just got to bite the bullet and let daddy get on with it. He WILL settle eventually, and you'll not be far away when he wakes up for his next feed! xx

I had the same problem. Friend recommended breastnurse bottle (Adiri), which i got off the internet 2 weeks ago. BRILLIANT! It is shaped like a breast and soft so when it is full of warm milk it feels very like a breast. I filled it with breast milk last week and she took it easily. This week i have filled with breast milk for some feeds and formula for others. She seems to prefer the breast milk but takes the formula ok. Got mine from www.blossommoon.co.uk Hope this helps and good luck.

I went through the same, tried every bottle out there but it was only when we tried the cheapest old fashioned big latex teats that he took it He is 6 months now and on the odd occasion that he needs a bottle he will use any teat
