When should I be worried that 12 week old isn't smiling?

I have seen a few smiles, so I know she can, but they're not in response to me. I've probably seen her smile about 20 times (first time about 8 weeks). Most of the time they're as a result of staring at the ceiling.

Should I be seeking advice? I'm not hugely concerned otherwise; though she's very very chilled.

I remember my older DD was like that OP...she's fine. She's still chilled and somewhat reserved now she's 13!

I think she was bout 4 months old when we finally got a laugh...and what a laugh it was! it was so big and hysterical that I was thrilled!

She was in the bath and I was doing that thing where you slap your hands on top of the water to make a splash and saying "Oh!" and she just thought it was the funniest thing.

Yours will get there! Some of them are a bit harder to please!

My son was quite serious-looking as a baby and didn't really smile at all until 12 weeks (a couple of half smiles before). He's now a very cheerful and affectionate three year old - and he hit all his other milestones on time, so the late smiling didn't seem to mean anything in terms of temperament or development.
