Baby feeding every two hours

My lb is 6 weeks old and wakens every two hours to feed during the night. He only feeds around every three hours during the day. Is there any way to get him to feed less often during the night? I can't get back to sleep between each feed so pretty exhausted!
Thanks

Congratulations on your new LO Thanks

At this age it’s unlikely that he’s sorted out the difference between day and night fully yet. One thing that can help is getting him outside in the daylight at least twice a day as daylight is proved to promote sleep.

Is there any way you can encourage him to feed more in the day? Try to get an extra feed in during the day or try to feed him every 2.5 hours instead of 3?

This sounds completely normal for a baby of this age. Rest assured, it won’t last forever but frequent feeding is to be expected. Make sure your room is dark during the night - keep lights dim, don’t talk too much to baby and keep nappy changes with as little stimulation as possible. Your little one will get there, stick with it. You will eventually get into a rhythm of getting yourself back off to sleep between feeds. Have you tried feeding lying down?

At around this age I started waking baby at 7am everyday to try and ensure she was awake to feed more during the day. I also wake her at about 10.30pm for a last feed before bed. I don't wake her fully for this one and keep the lights dim in the bedroom. She hardly wakes but does feed. I also think I was still feeling pretty anxious at the 6 week mark so couldn't get back to sleep between feeds. I let my partner sleep baby side of the bed and he would wake me to feed her and check on her inbetween. I think this helped take the pressure off a bit as I didnt feel solely responsible for her and i managed to sleep a little better. If you're breast feeding you could express during the day and let someone else do the 10.30pm feed so that you can get a few solid hours of sleep. I also found that a white noise machine helped little one to sleep for longer periods at night. Good luck hun x
