Why is my baby so stiff?!

My 6 (very nearly 7) month old DS is literally the most rigid baby I’ve ever known. Basically if I hold him upright it’s almost like he stands to attention and all of his muscles go totally stiff. If I try and hold him over my shoulder he arches back with his head leaning away from me. He still can’t sit up unaided either as he’ll push with his legs and end up on his back. He has lots of tummy time and can roll over from his back to his front no problem. He suffered with terrible reflux from birth due to cmpa but that’s all under control now so I don’t think it’s related to that..
I probably sound ridiculous, but I have friends with baby’s of a similar age and they’ve all been sitting up for months and are even starting to crawl. I bought DS a jumperoo recently and he won’t bounce in that either, just stands straight and plays with the toys.
I know every baby is different, but I do worry.. Is this normal??

Have you asked your health visitor or GP? Was your birth ok with him OP?

I would echo previous post, what does gp or HV think about it?
I always felt my little girl was a bit like this when I stood her up she's now 21 months totally fine. She walked at 11 months so was totally normal re milestones

I'd get medical advice about this. Probably nothing but my friend's baby was like this and turned out to have Cerebral palsy. Not trying to scare you as it probably isn't but I'd rule it out anyway.

socrates that’s exactly what I’m scared of.. our HV and GP aren’t exactly the most supportive, I was fobbed off a lot when DS was tiny about his dairy allergy they literally didn’t believe me until we had it confirmed by a private paediatrician. Might have to call them though I suppose and at least give it a go..
Ajas my birth was awful imo.. 18 hour labour from start to finish and required lots of intervention at the very end. Cord was around DS neck multiple times, heart rate dropped dramatically and needed emergency episiotomy and ventouse extraction. Taken me (and him no doubt!) a very long time to get over it but we’re doing much better now and bonding well x

Well on the positive side he doesn't seem to be behind on milestones yet, many babies don't sit up at 6/7 months. Mine didn't! Rolling and playing with objects are a good sign. Still I'd go to your Gp and ask them for help. I think a physio referral would be the right route but am willing to be corrected on that one. My friend's ds with cp is doing great now with support and the right care programme he's come on in leaps and bounds so try not to get yourself worked up over this "worst case scenario" Thanks

I thought my DS had cp as his legs were so rigid but the HV reassured me and he is fine now.
