7 weeks routine - no 10/11pm feed ??

Hi my DD is 7 weeks and is pretty much set in the following routine, completely on her own as I follow her cues...
She takes 4/5oz each bottle

6.30/7am - feed
Down for a nap around 8am for anything from 2 hours (rare!) to 20 mins
10/10.30 - feed
1pm - feed
4pm - feed
What we call witching hour is between 5 and 7!
Bath and get ready for bed
7pm - feed
She then goes to sleep anything from 8-9pm (resists sleep a lot then gets grumpy if overtired)
She’ll then sleep through till anything from 2.30-4am and take another full 5oz feed - she goes straight back to sleep after this then usually doesn’t stir till 6.30am ish

Question is should I be waking her for 10.30pm feed? Or should I leave her be and carry on with the night feed? Ideally I would like to drop that feed as she’s pretty full on during the day but not sure what’s for the best...

Formula says she should have 5 feeds in 24 hours of 5oz but she’s technically having 6 although she doesn’t finish 5oz during the day

Any ideas?

Best thing to do is ask your health visitor for advice. My nearly 2 month old is on 6oz and similar to yours had a feed around 7/8pm and then sleeps through till 3am ish. I was told that once baby has regained birth weight and showing good weight gain along their centile indicated in red book it’s ok to leave them longer between feeds.

My LO also tends to only drink about 2-4oz during the early morning feed and makes up for it during the day.

Basically feeding on demand is what I was told is best. This is coming from a formula fed baby. But do whatever you think is best instinctively- you know your baby better than anyone else 🙂

Oh gosh ladies I'm so jealous. My almost 6 week old feeds every 1.5 - 2 hours. Will only take 2-3 oz per feed. At night he feeds at 9, 11, 1 and then is wide awake 3-5am. At 5 he goes back to sleep till 7am

Can I ask what do you do during awake times in the day?
It's 3pm now and my baby has only been awake for feeds and that's it but even that's a battle to get him to stay awake.

He sleeps so much but I feel like this is why he's up at night :-(

Aw that’s a shame he doesn’t seem to have got his day and night right just yet but he will! Just make sure you talk, sing, keep busy during the day and then keep lighting low and no fun playtime during the evening...

If he only feeds 2-3oz too then eventually as he grows I’m sure his belly will grow and take more too to keep him going! Just keep going xx

Im currently using Colief which requires half an hour for it to break down lactose in her formula which helps me have some sort of routine where possible which goes something like this:

  • She wakes up around 6/7am a smiling happy baby and I make up the formula
  • We spend the next 30mins interacting, playing and talking to her
Just before milk is ready change her nappy ( and clothes if necessary) - Feed her, burp her.

Most of the time she tends to go to sleep straight away and naps either in my arms or her carrier/pram if we’re out. However this doesn’t work 100% of the time as it depends on whether she has trapped wind which can make her quite upset - she sometimes has days when she is like this all day.

She either goes to sleep once settled or stays awake until next feed so we try to placate her by playing and talking to her - she really enjoys lying on her changing mat and having a good look around.

This routine is repeated where possible throughout the day until 7/8pm when roughly 30mins after she feeds and has gone to sleep we put her in Moses basket where she sleeps until 2/3 am. She is a noisy sleeper though so I try my best to ignore her noise!
