Beware - rant needed...

My HV came round the other day and my DD sat up herself (7m) the whole time she was here wittering on in a patronising fashion. I boasted that she could now sit up from lying down position. (thought this was valid boasting as she was here to check development!) Then before she left the numbnut said "well she's almost sitting up. I would be concerned if she was 9m..." I told her she had been sitting for 2 months and I only put cushions behind her as I was off making Tea for HER. I promptly plonked her away from the cushions to demo her amazing sitting skills but of course she then kept lunging for the bright red bag for the scales and wouldnt sit up. Anyway after she'd gone I saw she had written:-

"almost sitting up. " in her red book. I know this is a small thing and the fact that I am pissed off about it is a sure sign im not getting out enough! But in a maternal, protective rage I thought - I can write in that bloody book too and like a schoolgirl I put a little * next to the word 'almost' and at the bottom I wrote:

"* has been sitting independently for 2 months" I have just realised that its carbon paper so through every page in the book. Yikes! That'll look good when she's five! I'm loosing the plot!

Not losing plot.
HV's can be a pain in the arse.
Make a point of telling her again next time and if she argues say "Well your here for an (whatever period she stays for) I'm here all the time"
That should rile her nicely

LOL

HV wrote that DS was mixed FF and BF at 4 months without even asking me. I told him that he was exclusively BF and she seemed very surprised.

TBH, I don't even know where DS' read book is now... (he is 2)... I only drag it out for vaccinations...

my dp thought it was very funny and said it is unlikely to affect her in later life. haw haw.

Last time she came to give me the weaning chat she told my that "babies only eat a very small amount but there's no point in cooking half a potato or half a carrot." You're kidding - you mean people cook more than that. even tho baby only eats a small amount. wow thats clever. I should have marched her to my baby freezer drawer all (analy) organised into little cute freezer bags with enough purees to last until she was 10. we might have to make it into soup!

analy is probably not a word. not spelt like that anyway. It is possible I have given her the impression that I'm really quite stupid!

well I guess they are only allowed to write what they see and from what you describe it sounds true to say the HV didn't see your dd sitting independently.

Though she could have been a little more tactful and said "sitting with support and parent attests has been sitting independently for some time". Though I hate to say it she just might not have bothered doing that as she may not have realised it's EARTH SHATTERING IMPORTANCE.

I know and I am pathetic being annoyed about it! But she could have asked to see her sitting up - she was here for about 2 hours! and the cushions weren't really supporting her (honest!) I think I make her too comfy with tea and biscuit feasts. next time she'll get a very small cup and no biscuits. that'll teach her :0
