And what do you think?

2 do 2 dont.

I have to say that with 1 of them I havent noticed any change in concentration or behaviour.
With the other one I have noticed there school works has improved but I put that down to actually starting to be keen on doing well at school.

Yes, think it helps and know it can't hurt.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/05/2007 23:20

We think they don't hurt but that's how the hype was about antioxidants only a few years ago. New research is coming out that they might be harmful for some conditions. So, fish oils, the jury's still out in my opinion.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/05/2007 23:22

Oh, I meant to add for improving behaviour, they ARE good for babies and a couple of other things (secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases and something else I forgot, and possibly age-related macular degeneration).

Aloha · 17/05/2007 23:24

They aren't harmful. It is what we are meant to have in our diet.

paulaplumpbottom · 17/05/2007 23:25

My daughter eats lots of fish so I see no need. Sardines are her favorite

brimfull · 17/05/2007 23:28

my ds has the eyeq tablets, too soon to tell if there has been an effect on him though.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/05/2007 23:29

We are meant to have them in our diet but I think the question was about supplements ("Do your children take fish oils?").

Paula - fish are the main source of...fish oils (DHA and EPA) but the exact quanities vary with the fish species and the way it was reared (wild or farm). So to get the recommended amount you'd need to eat e.g. between 2 portions of salmon a week and about 30 of cod. Some farmed species contain more DHA and EPA than their wild equivalent, but then they also have more of the omega-6 fatty acids which aren't so good. Which is where the supplements would come in handy if proved to be not harmful. We are also meant to have antioxidant vitamins in our bodies but some of the supplements are now coming out as being harmful.

DD has the eyeq tablets, I got them free as part of a trial so am happy to give them to her. Wouldn't pay for them though.

multivitamin prostate wwaarning

A long shot from fish oils and children's behaviour, but an argument for more research.

LynetteScavo · 17/05/2007 23:58

DS1 won't take any vitamin suppliment, but DS2 and DD love to take fish oils.

I took a fish oil supplimnet when I was pregnant, too.

There was a poster on the notice baord of DS1's infant shcool instructing parents to give their children vitamin suppliments. I was suprised it didn't also mention fish oil.
