Ds with shocking seperation anxiety. How do I deal with it?

He's just coming up to 9 months but he has terrible problems with being away from me.

When I'm with him, he wants to be on my knee all day, and I mean all day. If I put him down he screams and screams and screams until he is sick and even then it doesnt stop.
If dh is with him or anyone else, theres no prolem so long as I'm out of sight. The second he claps eyes on me, the crying, reaching out and screaming begins.
He is crawling and cruising and I was hoping that when he starts to walk it may pass as he can go and follow dd around.

I need to do something about it as its becoming really hard to deal with now. Not only that but he wont be the baby anymore when number 3 arrives at the end of the year.

Any tips on what I can do?

I did suffer the same problem for 2 months with md dd.

The only thing that worked for me was to take her with me everywhere in the house.

I had a few toys in almost every corner of the house so if i was in the shower she could play and see me. Toys in my bedroom if I was making the bed. Toys in the guest rooms for a change of scenary and lots and lots of driving in the car and going out.

She is now absolutely fine. I think that they just need lots of reassurance and lots of love at the mo. It is a temporary thing so make the most of this one until the new baby arrives.

It will get better! x

Think it's just a phase and you have to give lots of reassurance and cuddles and hope that makes them feel secure enough to leave you alone for a bit...

I just dont know how much more reassurace i'm supposed to give!

I have him attached to me all day. Its got to the point where i can't do anything!

I could have written your post about my dd, she was APPALLING. I clearly remember sitting on the loo (upstairs) crying and she was SCREAMING downstairs I didn't find a way of stopping it I'm afraid but if it helps she is now a confident, happy little girl who loves going to nursery and just disappears when we go to play groups. It's an absolute bugger when you're going through it though. My sympathies.

Thanks Dances.

I'm at a real loss.

It is hard and I almost lost my mind! But I thought to myself -Well, this is not going to last forever, lets have the most fun we can have! I had a month of eating M&S pre cooked food, I was playing a lot in bed with her rolling her around the bed, playing Peeckabo and tried to have loooooots of visitors to distract her and keep my sanity!

It will get better!

I had this with dd and ds3. I got a sling with dd and carried her round in it so that I could get on with other things whilst still being attached to her. It got much better as time got on. DS3 was exactly the same, if not worse, but at 19 months he's now reeeally confident. I had to leave him with my neighbour recently at very short notice and he was absolutely fine, so be reassured that it does pass!

fricking hell, my 3.5 month old is like this now, and yours in 9 months LORDY. I left him the other day for 15 mins and had the ipod in with load music as I had had enough of the screaming and crying as I had just left the room to do something in the kitchen. It's claustrophobic sometimes I think, I feel smothered, but DS1 is 5 and I have to chase after him for a cuddle, in the main, so I suppose I should make the most of it for now. But it is hard.
