It will be for the first time so I imagine i will get very flustered and probably want to leave as soon as I get there, but any tips for the first time?
Also while i am getting dressed where do I put ds? That must sound like a really stupid question but advice would be welcome.
TIA

they get cold quite quicky, so bring along the towel and maybe a bathrobe for your son to the poolside

often in changing rooms they will have small dens on the floor that kids can't escape fromm, and changing mats - get him changed first, then he can play in the den thing, then sort yourself out next

bring snacks for afterwords and a drink, he'll prob be hungry!

dont know how old he is but i have been taking ds since he was 8 weeks, now 8 months. he has alwysloved it, likes water a lot, but only spent 15 mins in thw water first time. i always take his buggy in and get him changed first, i always take 2 towels for him aswell as the first one always gets really wet when he gets out of the pool then i dry him with the 2nd one. when hes done he goes in his buggy whilst i get dressed and usually falls asleep!

forgot to mention i always have the first towel by the pool

thank you for the tips. Can you take pushchairs into the changing rooms?

If he can stand, get some pull up or easy up pants, quicker to get the dressed. Ds was 16 months when he went for the first time (4 weeks ago) he loved it. The pool I go to has a huge gap under the changing room door so the first time around he escaped and tried to run off!!!!

Mum2FunkyDude · 16/05/2007 13:41

We're not allowed push chairs into the swimming pool area (too many people about)

you cant get the buggy into th echange room where we go, but i leave him outside the door and its amazing how quickly you can get dresseed!

Our place has family change areas, so you can lock the door, have room to take buggy into the cubicle, and they have a changing table with a strap. I always wear my cossie under my clothes, and put DS in his swim nappy before we leave, so it is very easy when we get there. Getting out I always get DS ready first (hooded towel by pool as others have said), get him dried and dressed and strap him in buggy and then get myself dressed. Works a treat!

Does the place you are going have a kids or baby pool? They are usually warmer.

Good luck!

Oh my god, I can imagine the hilarious predicament I might find myself in racing round a changing room half naked after a toddler. It's a toddler and parent session so it might not be so bad. I might have to drag my friend along so I don't look like a sad billy no mates.

I was nervous at the thought of taking my DS swimming too. Top tip is definitely to put your swim suit on at home (that will save a lot of time). I go to AquaBabies at the local pool - and that's proved really useful in giving me the confidence in the pool. The whole getting your child into a swimsuit/nappy is a juggle - allow a lot of time so that you don't end up rushing. But do take lots of towels. It really is worth the hassle though. Do go even if you can't get a friend to go too - babies faces when they're splashing about are just lovely. And they will soooo sleep that night - swimming is exhausting for babies!

Swimmin with LOs is great! Don't get flustered take your time.
Hardest bit is when you get out. Dress baby first then give lil snack, drink to munch while you get dressed.

Last time we went (last week), DCs got very pesky and pushed my clothes under the cubicle into cubicle nxt door!

I'm sure you're LO is much better behaved than that though.

Also one time, DS hid in a locker and another mummy had to tell me where he was.

Pesky kids.
