Mirror writing

My dd (just 5) is at home with chickenpox, and has surprised me this afternoon by writing in mirror writing - does anyone know why this happens? Just curious. TIA

Dunno, but Leonardo Da Vinci used to do it, so I'd say it's a good sign of some sort!

both my DDs (6 & 4) do this ocassionally.

i have noticed dd1 does it too (shes right handed)

It is often a trait in artistic people.

Oh dear....... DD is right handed, as it happens. She didn't realise what she had done - it just seemed normal to her1

I used to be able to mirror write with my left hand and normal write with my write hand at the same time, starting in the middle of the page. Dont know why, just seemed easy so maybe it is the way your brain works.

In fact, Im off to find another pen and see if I can still do it. How sad!

Sensible explanation no. 1: you know how a dog is a dog no matter which way it's standing? When you're just learning your letters, it's logical to think the same - so an "e" backwards is still an "e" (why shouldn't it be)?

Sensible explanation no. 2 (given me by ds): "I wanted to fit the writing onto the line so I started from the end".
