Ignoring or hearing problem?

My almost 3 yr old will often not respond if called while ingrossed in an activity or the tv, I've alway taken it as she's either deciding to ignore me or just unaware as she's consentrating on what she's doing.
It will often mean I have to physically get her attenion by standing in front of her or moving her head to look at me.

Now I'm starting to wonder if it's her hearing as she has constant dirty/waxy ears and I will have to use wipes to remove it from around the outside of the ear and lobe each morning (I have never used anything inside the ear).

But other times I can whisper or make something sound really exciting like say "wow look at this" and she will turn around.
Also nursery have not mentioned anything about any problems they have noticed.
Her speech is very good, I would say her vocabulary is above avg and she's very easy to understand.

Worth getting it checked anyway, even if to see about her ears producing so much wax?

I've taken my ds to the Dr with similar concerns. He had a look and thought that the ear drum looked dull, which may mean that it's slightly deflected by reduced pressure behind the ear drum, i.e. blocked tubes between ear, nose and throat.
So we have a referral to the local hospital's ENT clinic, and the waiting time is about three months!!
So I think my suggestion is, try the GP, and don't expect a quick solution.

Thanks, I've booked to see the doctor in a couple of weeks and will see what they say.
