From what I recall babies essentially, roll, crawl (commando bumshuffle side shuffle heffalump etc) then pull themselves up, gain confidence, learn to stand alone then eventually walk...
My dd is now 21 mths
about 4 weeks age she just got up and walked, she cruised but never stood alone nor learned to fall (on her botton or front) she walked for about 3 days walked the length of a large kitchen, then stopped altogether as if I've tried it, not keen, pack it away for now type thing.
Lately she has learned to stand and fall (frontwards but very safely) now she walks up to 2 and 10 steps steps happy as larry
Is this going to be it?
So want her to be walking for late summer fun in the garden in the house we are buying!!!!

Piffle, in my experience, babies often do something new quite suddenly, repeat it a few times then shelve it for a few weeks before taking it up properly. Do you think your dd is doing this?

Seem to be in a betting mood tonight and am def prepared to bet a tenner that she'll be walking less erratically within the next few months, Piffle. And I bet she'll have amazing fun in the new garden whether walking or not.

Hey STF that's very acute ? exactly what ds has done. We've got very excited in the past when he first rolled over. And stopped. And eventually did it again. When he first sat up. And stopped, before doing it again. Same with bum shuffling, crawling (hope he's not going to stop cruising though, started on Saturday and soooo exciting, I don't want him to stop!). Never realised it was normal though, thought he was just trying to catch us out!
I also don't want him to stop mopping the floor, which he was doing very efficiently this afternoon...

dd is pretty keen on only doing things she knows she can master or do safely...
We shall just have to wait and see!
Again...
ds just rolled, crawled and legged it at 9 mths...
Hmmmm

They can be contrary little monsters, can't they ? How does your dd manage to learn to do something safely if she's not keen on doing it until that point? Can see where she's coming from (I hate doing something when I'm not very good at it either) but I don't understand how you go from not being able to do it to doing it well without an irritating middle bit where you fall over a lot?

well dd has her own challenges (being very petite), but she still develops later but at the same sort of rate as most kids IYSWIM
I do see where she comes from entirely and have been so happy to let her stop and start as she has wished, she has been cruising since 10 mths, that is 11 nearly 12 mths ago, so am sure she must have sussed the principle in basic by now?
LOL she is so rewarding to watch do this stuff, today she had 40 folks at a pub informal wedding reception cheering her instead of the bride LOL and we were only visiting the plebs section!
