Dd won't put her feet flat

Dd is 9 months, and is beginning to pull herself upright, and loves being held in an upright position. At her 8 month check, my hv commented that she doesn't put her feet flat - she pushes up on tippy toe and sometimes turns her left foot in. I've been watching intently for the last month, and I've noticed that dd very rarely voluntarily puts her feet flat. Other babies I know, some younger than her, do. Is this something she'll grow out of? Would putting shoes on her some of the time help?

I'd ask your GP to check it out and refer on if there's a problem. My son had special shoes and later a cast for an inturning foot. He's fine now. If she too has a bendy foot you need some specialist advice sooner rather than later though.

Shoes will make it worse, bare feet are better for stability and grip, although once she is really walking, it could be that a properly fitted ankle boot or shoe strapped high on the foot minimises the intoeing (wellies and other loose fit shoes like Crocs or open sandals could make it noticeably worse). Her feet will probably become flatter as she spends more time upright and weight bearing but lots of children walk on tiptoes for a while with no ill effect later. In-toeing on its own isn't seen as a problem until 4 or 5. dd is 5 and still does it to some extent but a specialist says it is within tolerance and will correct as no underlying hip or foot issues. We encourage her to do ballet to help her foot positioning. hth

dd walked on tip toes (and still does at times when shes not thinking) she's 10 now. She was referred to a specialist who could find nothing wrong however I took her too my friend who was a Chiropractor who did a few adjustments and it seemed to improve.

have noticed ds does it sometimes too, so looks like I'll be going through it all again
