Question for everyone who has used teething powders!

I've got some nelsons teething powders for my LO and I was wondering 'in real life' how often people end up giving it to them?? It's so hard to be absolutely certain what's causing a grizzle and I can see myself debating 2-3 times every day for weeks / months about whether or not to give her a sachet. I know the answer is 'when their teething is causing them pain and not otherwise' but I would like to know how often you have ACTUALLY ended up giving them and also whether or not you think they work!!

i gave them. they didn't work! teething comes and goes, so it is easy to attribute an improvement to them.

I give them before I put ds down to sleep if he seems to be really suffering. They seem to help, I think they're supposed to be good for settling the stomache/bowels? when babies are teething.

Malaleche · 10/05/2007 20:05

I used the 'somebody and somebody' ones, sorry cant remember what they're called, small white box with dark blue writing, old fashioned looking. They were individually wrapped in little folded papers. DD1 would literally gag for them when she saw them coming, opened her mouth and stuck her tongue out! They didnt taste of anything in particular to me but seemed to bring her relief.

I used A&P on DS and on DD. I give them whenever I feel that she is unhappy. At the most twice a day and I can't give half, cos half gets spilt. I also back it up with Bonjela and nurofen or calpol. If you give the lot within 5 mins of each other, your LO will end up kipping and wake up much happier and perhaps not need it all until the next day, which is whats happening with DD right now.

UCM · 10/05/2007 20:25

Malaleche, it has matricia (sp) in it, please don't tell me it's rice powder or something????

CarGirl · 10/05/2007 20:26

I found teetha & ashton & parsons really help with teething - but what they really help with is reducing the amonia wee and acidic poos!

Runninglate · 10/05/2007 20:31

DD is constipated if anything - she rarely poos but it doesn't seem to bother her! Just loads of dribble, chewing and grizzles. I've been giving her a sachet about twice a day I suppose - when she's beside herself and won't settle to sleep. Coincidence or not, she always sleeps after a podwer. I'm just worried I'm giving her too many!

Hi, gave those powders (v v messy affair as DS wasn't grasping idea of having powder poured in the mouth) and rather pissed off that it didn't help at all after all the wrestling to get them in.

Nurofen and Calpol do seem to help, albeit after 30-40 minutes when they finally kick in. Only true cure I've found is good old patience/deafness to screaming unfortunately, as eventually (true) teething pain just subsides...

apeainapod · 10/05/2007 20:36

I used Nelson with DD as the Calgel didn't seem to 'get to the parts where it was most required'. It worked for her. However with the boys - Calgel, Calpol, Nurofen - 10 hours later THEN it worked!

suzycreamcheese · 10/05/2007 20:39

oh they did work...well too..
for the lifeof me i cant remember what they were called...pink label in white plastic tub....
gave other tub unopened away to someone
but do recommend..

the redness of his cheeks went down and could always sleep..gave when the cry was teething cry iykwim..got to recognise it after while...

good luck

Nelson's work amazingly on DD, don't know how as I don't believe in homeopathy. They are slightly sweet - maybe this and the powdery texture act as a distraction. We usually give them when she's grizzling and biting her fingers, sit her on lap and lean her back slightly then tip the powder in in two or three goes.
