So...do I put ds2 (5) back in pull-ups for night-time on holiday?

He's been dry at night (mostly) for about 6 months now - started off really well, but is having quite a lot of accidents now - twice a week at least, and twice in the last 3 nights. Which is fine, I can just bung his bedding in the washer (and having had a hard time with ds1's night-time training we are well equipped with spare sheets).

But... we're going to Cornwall in a couple of weeks and staying in a caravan - now obviously I'll take a waterproof mattress cover and spare sheets (and I've been using those Pampers bed mats) but...should I put him back in pull-ups just for the holiday or grit my teeth and resign myself to several hours of the holiday spent in the on-site launderette?

I don't know if he will feel a 'failure' (and I'll give him 'issues' ) if he goes back in pull-ups...any advice/experience?

have you spoken to him about it?

PandaG · 08/05/2007 13:08

We did this with DD - just been camping for the w/end, and trying to wash and dry a sleeping bag would have been a nightmare. Just explained that as she is on holiday she would be more tired, and so may not wake up, so just in case she could wear a nappy. She's 5 and 2 months btw, and has been out of nappies at night since her 5th birthday.

i was a night wetter for years, (wont say how old as ery about it still) and it always got worse on camping trips.

what about the pyjama pants? are they any better?

Singapore, not yet - I thought I'd sound out MN first. I did (a while ago) say to him that if we went camping it might be better for him to be in a pull-up because if his sleeping bag got wet we wouldn't be able to get it washed and dry...so I guess this is just an extension of that. Only we are going for 2 weeks, and he will be in a proper bed with sheets - so it does feel a bit different.

Panda, I think that's the line I'm inclined to take - don't really want to be hanging about washing and drying sheets when we should be going out for the day.

misdee - I was a bed wetter too, til quite late (10/11 ish?) and ds1 wasn't dry at all til 7+ (it's all documented on here - he had to have an eneuresis alarm in the end) so, really, I'm incredibly chuffed that ds2 is going without nappies at 5 Are pyjama pants those pull-ups for older children? I think we tried those with ds1.

I think I would adopt the approach mentioned in PandaG's post and mention it to him and see how he reacts. The thoughts of spending you holiday doing laundry is not that appealing. My DD1 is 5 next month and we are just at the start of this, so am watching this thread with interest, as we have a lot of moving about this coming summer.

DD wasn't very keen on going back into a nappy for the weekend, but with some careful explanation it worked fine, as well as lots of praise that we are so proud of her being dry at night but she didn't want to get all cold if she did sleep so soundly that she did wet in the night. I think I will try the same approach next time we go away, unless we haven't had any wet nights for several weeks.
