Hi, I’m a mother to a 2 year 8 month old and I am also due baby number 2 in 4 weeks.
When we are out and about my toddler will hold hands for about 2 mins before getting distracted and running off, being as pregnant as I am it’s difficult to keep a control of him. I’ve tried reins but he will then sit on the floor refusing to move. Have also tried a buggy board but not had any luck with that either.
I don’t want to get a double buggy as moving around shops is difficult enough with a single buggy but I’m worried that when baby number 2 comes along because he won’t stay with me and I won’t be able to chase after him with a baby in a buggy. If things don’t change then I’ll be forced to stay inside with both kids all day every day which I don’t want for them.
Any tips on how I can keep him close without losing him?
Sorry it’s a long message I’ve just had a nightmare trip to one shop with him and I’m now sat at home crying thinking that maybe baby number 2 wasn’t the best of ideas as much as I want her. I’m desperate! X

Single buggy. Tell your toddler to hold your hand/the buggy but if they let go they have to go in the buggy. Be really strict about this and make sure you follow it through every time. You need to teach him to hold your hand at all times and the consequence of not doing this is being put in the buggy. You could carry your newborn in a sling for the first few months and by then your toddler should be trained into holding hands. I had 3 under 3...you’ll be fine
