Nearly 4yo making up his own jokes

My ds (4yo in March) has in the last couple of weeks started making jokes up which are essentially a play on words. His vocab has always been excellent and he is desperate to read. He has a number of words which he can't read as such, but easily recognises from stories. He has from the age of about 2 been able to follow instruction with multiple points, as in: it's in the kitchen. Go and get it. You'll need your step. It's on the breakfast bar. Remember to tidy your step back and shut the door again behind you. I'm of the impression that this is reasonably advanced for his age but don't have much knowledge in the area. I'd just like to know if this is actually a case of pfb on our part and if not, what I can do to encourage him. He loves to learn.
Sorry for the long post!

Very common to enjoy jokes at his age. If they're funny then even better.
My oldest told some bizarre jokes that didn't make sense so we bought him a book so that he could learn some.

Sounds healthy and normal to me. Just keep doing whatever you're doing!

I teach 4 and 5 year olds.

It's very common for them to make up jokes, some of them are even amusing!

Normal yes, but a very cute and lovely stage never the less so enjoy it and take loads of videos to look back on.Smile

He did a corner today, has had me and his dad chuckling away almost the entire day. Will definitely look back with very fond memories.
