my ds is a good kid but he is getting rather high maintainence when it comes to keeping him occupied. we go out for walks and wander round the small village we live in. he likes seeing people and is fine when he is out and about, but he will only play with his toys for a short time before boredom sets in - fine in the good weather but it is lashing down outside!
any suggestions for afternoon activities/distractions????

I found the museum a good place to go on rainy days. We would get the train into town and then wander about, some of them are very child oriented now. Ours has a small aquarium which we loved to look at and a soft play area where dd would roll about merrily for about 30 mins! All indoors too... I'm desperately racking my brains here as dd is now 23 months and it seems so long ago. If you don't want to leave the house, how about playing with craft stuff? I have a selection of cheap things like pompoms, large shiny shapes and cardboard cut out shapes which we used to (and still do) arrange and sprinkle on a piece of paper. Gah! My memory is terrible - hopefully someone else with a memory will pop along soon!

My 7mth old is a bit like this. Garden centre, our local, luckily massive, supermarket is always a big hit with him, any undercover shopping centres with lots to look at, but I do sympathise. It's exhausting at times.

Have you got any little friends to be with? Perhaps there's a mum near you with the same problems and there's nothing like other children for keeping yours entertained (whatever their age).

thanks for all your suggestions ladies! i will try them out. i don't drive, which is a problem as there isn't much round here, but 10 miles or so away there is lots to do. perhaps i will be brave one day and take the bus!!!

I remember when DS started crawling he suddenly seemed to be able to amuse himself far better, which was a blessed relief.

He used to like me singing action songs to him (I sing very badly, but he doesn't care). Like Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes etc. Always made him smile (still does).

Probably the bus ride itself would amuse him too. Especially if he can look out of the window.

yes. have sometimes thought i should just hop on the bus and ride it back and forth to the nearest town until the rain stops!
