Hello,

So my 6YO in Yr 2 been tantrumming & difficult since she got back from school today she has been very out of character saying:
We hate her
She's nasty
She hates us
Those are the headlines tricky to calm her down & she has worn herself out & is now colouring.

I got to the bottom of this a friend in her class told her today she wishes she was dead, this friend also said to another girl in the class she wanted to kill her a few wks ago.
My DD just cried it out in the corner at playtime no one noticed the other girl told teacher & girl did half hearted apology but clearly not learned as said it to my DD today.

So shall i have a word with teacher on Monday or message mum directly asking her if everything ok at her end as other than these 2 incidents I don't think this girl has done anything else?

Or shall I just leave it & tell my DD to steer clear which I clearly will do anyway. It is a good way to learn that the world is full of impolite people with bad manners & perhaps they take their problems out on others?!

WWYD I don't want to over react?

Just hard as she is only 6 & a comment of this nature has really hurt her feelings. I find it soooo sad that this happens in yr 2 of an infant school & the girl has no older siblings so hoping she didn't get it from her parents phrases like that......just very sad & worrying.
I also have playing on my mind that the teacher didn't resolve properly as happened again?!

Oh God, don’t ever contact the parent directly. I would ask for a meeting with DD’s teacher on Monday. Tell her what happened and ask how they are going to resolve it. If you aren’t available on Monday, send DD in with a letter or write an email if your school accepts emails.

If you’re not happy with the answer, see the Head.

Yes to talking to your DD.

My ds (5) has been behaving similarly and has also been lashing out physically as well as verbally to us. He was saying things like I'm going to kill you then crying and saying please don't kill me or you're not my best friend anymore etc. I get the best friend thing but we've never said kill in any context to him. He also eventually told me about a boy saying xyz and bullying him.

We approached the school to ask advice, not blaming the other child as he is only 5 too, and the school came back to us saying that our ds was the one saying the nasty things and hitting/bullying other kids.

I think there may be truth in both stories, I know my ds isn't an angel, not many 5 year old boys are! And he would probably retaliate.

My concern was why, if my child is solely doing this with nothing being said/done to him, did the school not notice until we brought up the issue. This is apparently happening at break time which is supervised.

We have further meetings arranged with the school. I've been told by so many people that kids in p1/reception do this as it's all part of settling in, marking their place and making friend groups...not sure I fully believe that's how kids find their place!

It's horrible not knowing the full truth and being at the brunt of them at home. Especially when they are saying upsetting things and can't explain where it came from.

I'm new to all this so I'd be interested to know why it wouldn't be ok to contact another parent?
