Could my 8 month old have diabetes?

I’ll try to keep it short..

DS was born at 36 weeks by section due to complications but was a healthy weight at 6lb 6oz. No health issues and has been well for the last 8 months apart from a cold and cough which started just before Christmas.
He’s always been a decent sleeper and settled well in his cot on a night, and since 4 months has very rarely woke in the night.

The last week however he is a totally different child. He’s grumpy, not napping as well in the day. He won’t be cuddled to sleep or comforted when clearly tired and won’t settle in his cot. He screams at the sheer thought of bedtime and doesn’t calm down for ages. He eventually knackers himself out and gives in but only stays asleep a maximum of two hours and then is awake again but will settle again with a large drink of water. This goes on all night.

It’s the amount of water he seems to be needing that’s bothering me. I haven’t changed his diet or milk (he’s formula fed) but even during the day he cries until he gets a drink of water, like it’s distressing for him.

Has anyone any advice or had experience of this? I’m at my wits end with sleep deprivation and have a 7yo who is also starting to suffer.

Thankyou in advance

I’ve had my DS checked for diabetes because he drank so much water but he’s fine, we’ve decided it’s just normal for him. Do you make sure he’s always got access to water, as much as you can with an 8 month old. Is his nose blocked? If he’s mouth breathing he’s probably waking with a very dry mouth. I would get him tested but i would also offer plenty of high water foods like brocolli, cauliflower, jelly, soup and melon.

Almost forgot. Could he be almost 9 months by any chance? There is a huge sleep regression at about 9 months.

He is. He’s 9 months in 2 weeks time and have been wondering this myself and discussed on a different post aswel, ha! He always has his cup nearby but has never needed anything through the night until this last week. His colds cleared up, he’s just got a bit of tickly cough now.

I’m definitely thinking it could be more the sleep regression/developmental leap now. Ffs.
