3 year old's speech - is this normal?

Calling any speech and language therapists out there!

My DD is 3 in 10 days. Her communication is great - big vocabulary and can make herself well understood. However, she can't pronounce any consonants except 'd', 't', 'm' and 'n'. So, for instance, 'just a little bit please' would be pronounced 'dust a diddle dit pease'. Quite cute really. But her nursery have suggested that she see a speech and language therapist. Is this necessary? Any opinions as to whether this sounds normal and will right itself over time, or do I need to take action?

I’m not a SLT but a referral can’t hurt surely? If she does need sessions they are very play based. Both of mine have had speech therapy yet and we’re actually a bit sad when the sessions finished because they’d enjoyed them so much.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, you're probably right - I should ask my gp for a referral. Good to know that your child enjoyed the sessions!

Yiu can probably self refer or ask your HV to refer her to SLT and get her hearing checked too, just to rule low hearing out Smile
