2yo DD if she has ASD what help do we get?

Our DD will be 2 in a couple of weeks and we are really concerned that she has autism.

She has had an appointment with a community paed who says we are looking at a diagnosis of autism due to lack of communication.

We are currently awaiting a referal for SALT and portage. We have also booked a private occupational therapy review for her in February.

Reasons for our concerns -

Doesnt talk, says mama, baby and possibly her name but none of them on command

She doesnt repeat anything, words or actions (other than clapping)

She doesnt point or wave, she wouldnt wave goodbye or point to an animal.

She would distinguish between colours, or animals etc.

So basically there is no communication from her.

She will give cuddles, especially to mum, she likes to play with her sister, she goes to nursery 2 days per week, she will get herself food from the drawer she can reach if she wants something to it. She does love tickles, she giggles at her nana’s dogs, she loves Mickey Mouse (but no other TV shows), she likes music.

She has started to get very emotional when told ‘no’ so she understands that.

She is quite good in social situations, change isnt an issue for her.

She ticks a few things on the autism check list, but there are many things she doesnt check.

She did have glue ear from about January until grommets were fitted in July, so she did have about 7 months of hearing loss during a key time of development. I say she is sometimes she like a 1 year old in a 2 year olds body.

If she is autistic what help is given and what does it actually involve?

Thanks

Also - she doesnt point, but if being held will sort of move herself and you in the direction she wants to go.

She will also move her highchair out of the utility room into the kitchen when she is hungry. Although she wont entertain feeding herself.

She does listen and understand no and get down etc.
She loves to be tickled.
She has lots of laughs and smiles when playing with her sister. And smiles at peekaboo.

This morning she was moaning in the kitchen, went out there and she had her arms stretched out to the counter. Picked her up and asked her what she wanted and she leaned over and picked up the lid and bottle to her water bottle. Just no language yet.

i have a DD with ASD who was dx at 3.

If she is autistic what help is given and what does it actually involve

from the NHS, next to nothing. A few sessions of Salt, we saw OT twice and got some very generic (and useless) advice for her severe sensory needs.

however, she has an EHCP and gets support at school and we do get DLA (after a long battle). We use DLA to fund stuff privately and we learned a lot about ASD and have changed a lot of things at home, how we communicate with her etc.

but tbh, I find the 'help' we get outside school very dire. almost non existent. You need to find a way to help her/your family yourself. It wont come from the outside

privately, we did ABA in the early years and that was the only therapy which really had an impact.

try reposting on the SN board. you will get more responses there.n
