Son is just coming up for ten (yr5).

Over the last few weeks he is detaching from school saying teachers not being fair so much so teacher asked if everything is ok!

Have talked about it & he says that same people get picked for stuff, his class is 'full of idiots' general moody/misery Confused

He is in a 'challenging' class (2/3rd boys) many confident kids. He is competent and quietly confident but feels badly behaved kids get rewarded!

Any advice/perspective of others experience would be good Grin

Why does he feel that the bad,y behaved children get rewarded? Can he give you any examples?

It might be useful to post on the Preteens section too. You may get a few more replies Smile

He may well feel that badly behaved children get rewarded - they probably get lots of attention. I know that my DS found this a problem. Why if you did your work and got on with things did you get ignored? My DS also started to find primary school boring from this age - lessons with the same teacher all day every day, not really getting a lot of attention etc etc. I can say that secondary school has been a revelation for him and he loves it! I tried a couple of things - concentrating on which of his friends he genuinely liked and encouraging him to spend time with them, talking about the good things about school, being positive. There will be someone along here with decent advice soon!

Thanks for replied so far!

DS feels that bad behaviour is not really dealt with (shouting out in class, back chatting etc). He is definitely more mature so seems to find it more irritating.

I think Secondary may be good for him it is just such a long way away 😳

It is good to hear if it is more developmental than something else 😊

If he can give you examples, it might be worth speaking to the teacher. My DF found that her well behaved grade A DD was never rewarded with things like star of the week and it affected her in Y5. Once she explained to the teacher that this was actually encouraging her DD to behave badly, she started getting praised and rewarded more in school.

I think he is finding it de motivating as he associates doing well with being like these other kids. for example he routinely gets 70-75% for stuff but will not strive for higher as it puts him with them itswim

Confidence breeds confidence it is almost self fulfilling
