9 month old not sitting

Hi, my 9 month old rolls over really well and pushes up on arms. He is mobile and can roll himself from one side of the room to the other. He doesn't commando crawl but looks like when he pushes his bottom up he drops his arms and vice versa. I'm not concerned about that so much as I am about sitting though as I understand it's not a milestone and that not ever baby ever crawls. He kind of has his own form of crawling by rolling around.

When laying on his side DS grab my legs if I'm laying down and try's to pull up at an angle but doesn't try to sit up on his own.
He can do it and has before for a few seconds but then lays back down. Also when sitting on my knee he bends forward and is essentially sitting unsupported. However ds has no interest in sitting unsupported on his play mat and just rolls and lays down and pushes up on arms. Is this normal? Is he just a really chilled baby liking to be laid back and lazy?
When I try putting ds in sitting postition he arches back forcefully and won't even practise anymore. All he seems to want to do it lay around rolling and on front pushing up.
Just some advice needed please?

My DD is 10 months and was exactly the same. Its lazy baby syndrome basically, and I promise little one will grow out of it. Encouragement and reassurance is always the best. One day it'll just happen and you'll be so shocked, but appraisal is the best step forward. Nothing to worry about at all sweet :)

Thanks for your reply MummaCait. It's good to know DS isn't the only one! I think he takes after DH for the laid back 'lazy' thing Grin

My DD only started sitting up as she came close to 11 months. I was a bit concerned as her big brother has autism and has motor problems that can go along with that. My DD was referred to a physio just in case but the physio thinks there is no issue with her.

Imaginosity I'm pleased your dd didn't have it. I was researching that but ds doesn't have the symptoms. I have a feeling he's one 'laid back' baby taking ages his daddy. He's also a little chatter box and doesn't miss a trick so I'm wondering if he's been developing other areas first during the 9 month developmental phase. Hopefully he'll 'want' to sit soon as i wouldn't mind sticking him in the seat part of shopping trolleys it would be alot easier than lugging his pram everywhere!

Dd2 didn't sit up at all until about 10 months and was pretty wobbly even then.
The reason was that she crawled at 5 months, walked at 8 (nightmare!) so if you put her in the sitting position she just flung herself on her front and crawled/walked off. Opposite of laid back really.
Dd1 sat perfectly at 6 months, but wasn't mobile until 9,so had 3 months of sitting nicely.

I would mention it to a doctor or HV as although there's likely to be nothing at all wrong its no harm to get that confirmed. In the unlikely event there was some reason for the delay you could get physio started sooner.

Thanks pp we did mention it but were told it's not a concern because DS is rolling over mobile can reach for toys and get from one side of room to other etc. We were told to give it 10 months as all babies develop at different rates. Ds can sit when I hold his hand and stay in it but it's more he doesn't want to and forcefully arches back to lay down again. He has sat before unsupported so I know he can do it. He hasn't pulled up to sitting on his own although has been trying alittle lately pulling up from side abit (hoping this is slight progress). We're going to wait until after Christmas and when ds is 10 months I'd still no pulling up and sitting on his own we'll look for a referral.

Just an update:
DS has started tucking one leg under while balancing high on both arms. Crawling may not be too far away. Hopefully sitting will come along with it. If anybody's baby has done this please let me know if they crawled soon after.
