Just some advice if I can ladies for anyone who has had a newborn in winter, what did your baby sleep in/under in Moses basket and cot. Been told by one website to layer DD up and one website to have nothing. Have room at pretty much right temperature now but confused about this bedding thing 😲😲😲 xxx

Most people over swaddle babies. They do lose heat faster than adults because of their higher ratio of surface area to mass, but do not need to be kitted out for an arctic expedition. If the room is comfortable for you a light blanket should be all she needs.

Mine were born in December and February in New England, where we really have winter.

I am not sure exactly what blanket you mean - a loose weave cotton sort of thing? But yes, if she has good jammies over her diaper nappy then that's all she'll need. Even with just a onesie she should be fine.

We average about 6 to 7 feet of snow cumulatively per winter and typical January temps would be -12 C overnight to around 0 during the day.

I'm pleased you knew where New England is, or did you google it?

Best of luck with the baby. Smile Is she your first? Mine are 17 (ds) and 15 (dd) now. Enjoy her now, the years will just fly by with her.

Yes it is loose weave kind of thing, and she has her sleep suits on all the time.. can’t manage to get her in cloth es as she is a fidget🙂
This is my second but my first was born in summer so completely different guidelines drawn for that!!
I know where New England is a my aunt and uncle used to holiday there in the summer they reside in Canada😀 I could not deal with that kind of cold weather gets below ten in England and that’s it we are in deep winter lol😂😂😂 x

I know winters are mild in the UK - we send you all of that lovely heat via the jet stream. I wish we could turn a bit of it towards New York.

Best of luck with the baby. Grin

I had this issue as never knew what was right to put babies in.
Most swaddles and gro bags state on the packaging exactly what to put in babies to match the toggle.
My HV said a good rule of thumb is for baby to have one more layer on them than what you do.
Hope that helps?

Sorry but confused: is the guidelines the top pictures of a 1tog or the bottom ones with pictures of a 2.5 tog?? X

OP posts:
DinoMania · 19/11/2017 07:50

Guidelines are showing you what to use, a 1 you or a 2.5 tog, depending on the temperature of the room. And then what to layer with the gro bag depending on temperature and tog. Xx
