she is happy enough in water, we go to pool and lark about without her realising we are trying to teach her a bit, but as i am not confident in water myself, i want her to be super confident
lessons start a week on sat for 11 weeks, is there anything i can be doing to help in the way she would be taught?
and have you found lessons at this age to be any good?

My DS (4) started swimming lessons last term and he is become a lot more confident. Half an hour is long enough especially if they are done after school as DS comes home absolutely drained after swimming.

oh, i know i wouldnt 'not' pay for them, just thought they were pricy..the lessons are 55 minutes, so something like £6.20?, paid on switch, so cant remember exact amount?

wow pinkchick, that's a long lesson for a 4yo.

Is there any way you can reduce it and pay less? Well, see how she goes of course but I think that's just a long time in the water for a child of that age, never mind how tired she gets.

PinkChick · 18/04/2007 21:49

no there all the same unless theyre under 3(brth to 3)..never thought as we normally go for about an hour ourselves??!

Well I used to take DS2 for a Saturday morning session that lasted an hour but we always got out before the hour was up.

I worry that they get a) cold and b) tired.

Even with DS1 (almost 8) I would only spend about 3/4 hr in the big (colder) pool we use.

How warm is yr pool?

An hours does seem awfully long for a 4 year old. The local swimming club does hour sessions but they are from 8 or 9 year old.

PinkChick · 19/04/2007 08:18

, well it is level one and ive fille din all the form so they do know her age and most in her classs are same.
pool isnt all that warm unless you're in it constantly.

well look don't worry about it because of me wittering on.

Just take her but maybe be prepared to get her out if she gets cold. there can be a bit of standing around at swim lessons (depending on the number in class) so it might be an issue.

Maybe have a quick word with the teacher as well.

will do , thanks for advice too..she starts next saturday(her birthday aprty this sat), and she is very excited, so good start!

too long for a 4 year old IMO

but otherwise money well spent

PinkChick · 19/04/2007 15:14

well, i sit just out of sight of dd when shes doing them, i can see her but she wont see me, so will keep an eye on her to see if too cold/tired(as i would normlly anyway)
