Just picked DD, (21 months) up from my mums. She wasn't wearing a nappy and had wet herself. My mother did this with my boys at the same age. She only looks after them for a couple of hours a month not enough time to potty train them, so why does she do this???

Are you toliet training at home?

To be "helpful". My mother did this (started potty training dd during a 3 day stay without asking me) and I can only put it down to the fact that she has been a mother for longer than me and therefore believes she can do it better (setting aside the fact I have more children than her and have done all this before). Have you tried telling her that you think dd is too young and you will tell her when you think she is ready - alternatively you could just encourage dd to wee on her floor!

She knows perfectly well I don't plan to potty train her untill after we come back from a week in Cornwall in August. She can't even say "I need a wee" yet. When I potty train, the nappies will be gone, no messing around.

Lets hope shw wees all over the sofa!

Have you discussed this with your mother ?

If she insists, I'd leave dd with her for longer and perhaps a little more often. She (your dm) will soon get tired of cleaning up wee and poo.

Oh just ignore me; I'm a bit pmt ish this week.

My dm knows perfectly well I don't intend to potty train yet. Both my boys were 2.4 when they came out af nappies. And theycould both talk quite well (unlike dd) My dm thinks girls are so much more advanced, and should all be out of nappies by 18 months. She thinks I'm wrong to leave it this long.
