Just got back from a weeks holiday in Jersey, disaster, DS most loved toy and constant companion got taken from the hotel room with the dirty towels!! Can't replace from shop as no longer made. Small beanbag (not beanie!) v dark brown dachsund toy with black ears, nose and tail - bought from M&S approx 4 yrs ago. If anyone knows where I can find one - or has any suggestions I'd be most grateful - DS heartbroken!! Thanks.

have you tried calling the hotel.

My dh left his favorite bear on a bus whilst on holiday when he was a child and they actually managed to find it after some phone calls.

I'm sure the hotel must have found it once they dried and folded all the towels.

If not - there's always E-bay!!!!

Unfortunately he went missing on day 1 - laundry and hotel scoured and searched from top to bottom - missing notices posted. No luck. Really desperate now!

LissaQ-have you any photos of it. Weird question I know, but if you have you could make up a "postcard", teling your little one he's gone on holiday BUT sent his best friend to look after your toddler. I don't know, would that work, especially if they have expressed an interest in any particular fluffy toy/character? Hope that helps!XX

I agree with Jollymum, if you can't get him back, send a post card, it worked for me with a monkey called Chuckles that my daughter left at her grandparents, she couldn't sleep without him, so we sent a postcard saying that he had gone away and misses you very much, so I'm sending mummy a new friend for you to look after and show him the ropes, don't forget to read him a story before you go to bed and tuck him up nice and neat, ps he likes sausages just like you do. Now she sleeps with chuckles 2 and has simply forgotten about the original one and they look nothing like each other.

I could sent you one from portugal if you gave me your address, that could make it really exciting/adventurous for your ds

Tartegnin · 23/07/2004 16:34

That's terrible! May I suggest that you post another notice with something more descriptive in the title like "desparately seeking M&S beanbag toy" and post it on a more general board here with lots of traffic from moms of four year olds? They would have received a lot of gifts including soft toys abut that same time. Like me, they could look through their children's soft toy collection to see if there's the same or similar lurking about. We got loads of soft toys when my daughter was born, and other than the two or three she is really attached to, I would gladly give one up in this circumstance. I did check, though, and all we have is an M&S bunny from that period. I'll keep my eyes open, though.

If its any consolation - which i know it won't be - we lost ds2's darling teddy two weeks ago. He had been inseparable from him since 12 weeks old (ok he;'s only 16 mths now!). It was in a shopping centre and I could be sick to think that someone must have him now, as he was never handed in to lost property. Ds2 didn't sleep for a week, and kept saying teddy in a pathetic baby voice all the time.

His teddy too had been discontinued. About £45 later and at least 3 new teddys he is alot more settled. I know what you are going through, but I have to say you probably will feel worse about this longer than you ds. Huge hugs and if we had one I would send it to you.

We might have something similar - I vaguely remember a M&S dog but i think its ears are paler. If we still have it - it will be in the loft somewhere - I'll try & have a look tomorrow for you.

whizzz · 23/07/2004 20:13

No - checked with DH - it was a beige beenie M&S dog with dark brown ears, nose & tail. You could say hes been swimming in the sea & changed colour ?? Can't get in the loft at the moment as DS is asleep (loft hatch over his bed!)

whizzz · 24/07/2004 18:48

Found said beanie dog - he's (as I thought) biege with dark brown nose, ears & tail.

You are quite welcome to him LissaQ as my DS hasn't played with him in ages. I'll contact you & send you photo !

Thanks everyone for your kind ideas - I've tried several noticeboards - a couple of hopefuls but no success yet. I'll keep trying though. I know he'll get over it in time, currently thinks "doggy" is "exploring" - but I'd do anything to see his face light up with the return of dearest dog! Stupid I know, but what can you do! Thanks.
