Heat: what should 6 month old wear in bed and how to convince him to drink water?

We're in overheated flat in Central Asia with 6 month old DS, he has grobags etc, have to tuck him in otherwise he gets into weird positions in the cot. However, he's often sweaty after naps etc... also worried he's getting dehydrated, as is offered water every afternoon but doesn't want it.. He has 3 meals of solids plus good amounts of breastmilk...

any tips for not getting too hot in bed and also how to convince them to drink a bit? I'm reluctant to give juice if he might take water?

any advice appreciated!

You could try putting a teaspoonful of juice in cup of water if he'll drink it and gradually reduce juice til he's just drinking water.... Maybe try tucking him in without grobag? (ie sheet?)Don't know if that's any help....

If he was mine hun, i would monitor the room with a thermometer, if its too hot put him in approproate clothes, i.e no grobag, maybe even no pyjamas, when my dd was little and she ws overheated (due to illness not room temp though) i would let her sleep in her nappy, i also offerd her a drink every hour or so (when awake). I also gave her weak juice rather than just water as i thought it was so important for her to drink, but he is your baby and you know him best so go with what you think is right.

I would just put him in a nappy, no other clothes, and a 0.5 tog grobag and not worry about tucking him in or weird positions. And keep offering him the water and eventually he'll drink some. He's unlikely to get dehydrated in the meantime if he's having plenty of breastmilk.

I bet he won't get dehydrated if he's breastfed. I'd personally say either grobag or sheet to tuck in, but hey, they are often sweaty little things anyway. I think he'll be fine.

my nearly 6 month old won't drink from a cup at all

i keep hoping the heat might persuade her to try

like you i'm BFing so just keep offering that if she seems hot

(mind you we're in Scotland not C Asia!)

YOu could try a small amount of apple juice in the water if you get desperate, it worked for mine. LIke others have said, if he's BF he should be getting enough liquid.

You need to put a finger down the back of his top to see how warm he feels. If he is too hot then you need less clothes and if he feels cold he needs more.

He should get enough liquid from breastmilk or are you trying to reduce the feeds? Are you offereing from a cup or a bottle? It might be worth experiment with various sippy cups.

thanks for tips... yes, I'm trying to cut down the milk but only slowly.. he does have quite a lot of solids so must need the fluid..

he was put in his gro bag yesterday night and wasn't sweaty so it can't have been too hot,

will persevere with the water, don't know how long to carry on before adding juice but will try!

I would get a room thermometer too and dress accordingly each time. DS is a sweaty thing even when he is not that hot he is a wee warm thing.
Keep going with the water it does take time and a bit of perseverance. If he is getting plenty of BM he will probably be fine though.
DS wouldn't drink water and I am pretty anti juice but I gave it to him and by the time he got the hang of drinking that out a cup he did start drinking water too.
