Hello all,
I was wondering if anyones baby has ever had a " soft fluid "raised lump(approx 2inches wide and a few cm high) on the back of the head on the top right hand side?
We took him to the doctors and he said it maybe a cyst/Also as we are waiting for an appointment to see a pediatrian for His reflux we should wait until then (when ever that will be.??
Its' just we as first time parents are obviously a little concerned!!
It doesnt appear to be causing him any discomfort.
He was born by c section eleven weeks ago (five weeks early) and the lump appeared around two weeks ago.

Hi

can't help at all but just saying it must be a worry for you. I think I would be inclined to get a second opinion apart from the gp if I thought it was unusual.

hope someone is familiar with it and can help

I would seek a second opinion. DS2 had a similar lump on his arm at 10 days, DH ( a peadiatrician) insisted we took him to hospital and we spent a night there while they investigated. It turned out to not be a cyst but I was led to believe we would have been kept on IV antibiotics if it had been.

DS (11.5 months) has 3 soft fluid lumps - a blue one on his back and one on each heel (flesh-coloured). They appeared at some point in the first 6 weeks (but I was so sleep deprived I hadn't spotted them until the 6 week check . Whenever I've asked the doctor or hv about them I've just been told they're nothing to worry about. At the 6 week check they said he might need referring to someone if they were still there at 6 months, at 6 months they said wait until 9 months, and at 9 months they said worry about if they're still there at 3 years.

I don't honestly know if we've been repeatedly fobbed off, or if they genuinely are nothing to worry about.

my ds had a similar lump behind his ear and on his neck. he was born by forceps though. it cleared up after a few weeks, but we had it checked immediately and they said it wasn't a cyst. if it is a cyst it should prob be treated sooner rather than later. our midwife sent us to a & e, where we spent a horrid few hours, but at least we were reassured it wasn't a cyst or tumour (tho' they didn't know what it was!). in the end, it was deemed to be a very large bruise from the forceps.

Thanks for the replys all!..
We took him back to the doctors today and he saw two different docs at the same time!.
Both said it is the same lump as if he had been a forceps birth and even though they know not why he has it but that it will dissapear soon.

Obviously we will keep a close check on it!!!

thanks again for you help and re assurance

Hi there!

Im a midwife who's been present at many CS births, and thought you might be interested to know it is not uncommon for the obstetrician to use forceps to deliver the head of a baby who has become engaged well into the pelvis. You may be able to find out through your midwifery team or the hospital where your baby was born if this was the case for you, perhaps this might give you some reassurance. Good luck!

My dd is now 12 weeks and had a lump when born due to spinning round inside my pelvis during labour - everyone assumed it was a forceps or ventouse delivery due to the lump but it wasn't!

I know your lo's was not caused the same way but it does sound like the same kind of lump by your description - my dd's is still there slightly but as gone down enormously over the last 2 weeks - until then we thought it may be there for good!

As with MuffinMclay's reply, we were told at 6 week check that it should be gone by 6 months....

Hope this helps and good luck!
