DS is 6.2mths and just lays there. He doesn't roll over or even attempt to he just grabs what he can without turning over and shoves it in his mouth.

All the development books say he should be rolling by now, should I be worried or is he just a lazy monkey!!

He feeds well and is really smiley and happy he just doesn't move!

neither of mine rolled until they were 11 months, whihc is when they started crawling, DS did not walk until 17 months, nor would he weight bear, and DD did not walk until 16 months !

Swizzler · 11/04/2007 10:17

DS doesn't roll at 6 months - can sit up and was weight bearing from about 3 months but not interested in rolling or crawling. Think they all develop differently

Scootergirl · 11/04/2007 10:20

DD never rolled at all. Don't worry - enjoy the temporary peace of knowing he'll be where you left him! It'll be over soon enough and you'll be chasing him round like a headless chicken

Seona1973 · 11/04/2007 10:21

my 6 month old has only just started rolling. His problem is he doesnt like to be lying down for any length of time. He will sit for a short while but the rest of the time he just wants to be on his feet - very tiring for the person who has to hold him as he is almost big boy at 21lbs!! His entertainment unit and baby walker have been a lifesaver especially when I have to deal with dd who is a lively 3 years old (and has chicken pox at the moment!!)

it's easier for babies to roll from being on their tummies over onto their backs than backs to tummies

does he have any tummy time? that would help him, if you want him to start rolling

Flumpybumpy · 11/04/2007 19:16

He will lie on his tummy for a while and has a very strong back, he lifts his head and legs at the same time but doesn't roll. He just gets stressed and screams til I trun him over!

Some just hate being on tummy and will therefore take longer to learn to roll as you wont put them on their tummies so much.
Don't worry.

Flumpybumpy · 11/04/2007 19:23

He is so strong minded he won't do anything he doesn't want to. DD was rolling over really early and crawling by 9mths so it's hard not to compare.

At 6 months my lo refused to lie on his tummy, refused to weight bear on his legs, never rolled then suddenly at 8 1/2 months all he wants to do is lie on his tummy (screams if I try and change his nappy when he is lying on his back), rolls and wants to stand up if I try and sit him down! Oh how I wish for those days when he loved lying on his back!

cruisemum1 · 11/04/2007 21:01

my ds 7 months, can roll from back to front in one direction.....but he rarely bothers! he seems to forget he can do it. he sits up really well and can bear weight. i put him on his tummy which he doesn't mind for short periods but he shows no incliation to roll from front to back. i worry about it from time to time as dd was doing all those things at 6mths but i guess he is just a lazy little lump

wrinklytum · 11/04/2007 22:53

Hi FB,please do not worry. My second child has been sooo much slower than my first. She did not gain sitting balance until 9 months and took until almost 16 months to bum shuffle. It IS incredibly worrying whe your first was doing everything so much earlier I agree.I think six months is still really young to be concerned re rolling, but perhaps a chat with hv will set your mind at rest??Monkeys aren't they!!It does amaze me just how different my two have been

Flumpybumpy · 13/04/2007 19:10

Got HV appointment in May so will definitley mention it then. I am not too worried as I'm sure he will do it soon and I will be wishing for the days when he stayed where I put him

Do you play lots of physical games with him - things like lying on your back, draw your legs up into you a bit and rest him on your shins to rock him a bit - while still holding onto him of course - just helps his body adjust a bit to balance and muscles tone a bit too. Have you tried a baby door bouncer - just for a few minutes here and there each day. Little things that help build strength, give them another view of the world etc. It will most likely come in time, but I agree to chat with the HV too. When he is on tummy time, prop up his front under his chest with a rolled up towel - helps him see a bit better and observe the world around him. Maybe a toy or two infront for him to reach for?
Good luck

My DD is six months, she lies there squarking and squeals if you put her on her tummy. She rolls to the side only to let out loud smelly farts (sometimes more) and then goes back to lying on her back.

She will happily jump in a door jumper (for ten minutes max before I take her out of it for fear the MN police will come round)

Don't sweat it, sometimes they get language first, sometimes movement. My DD can yodel!

Fleecy · 16/04/2007 12:23

Don't worry. My DD is 7 months and has rolled over once - it was about two months ago and she shows no sign of doing it again - she hates being on her tummy. She used to bear weight but since she's learned to sit up she's totally lost interest and just likes to sit for hours instead.

She's a happy, chatty little thing so I'm not worried - just enjoying the fact that I can leave the room and she'll still be in the same place when I come back!

jambot · 16/04/2007 16:02

My DD only rolled at 9 months. Wouldn't worry ATM.
