How to punish child for behaviour during punishment?

My 2.5 year old seems to be responding well to time out/naughty chair method that we have started trying, but while I am carrying him to time out, he attacks me, and I'm not sure how to punish him when he is effectively about to be punished for e.g., spitting at his friend. If I say to him 'you are in the naughty chair for spitting at Shannon AND biting, hitting and scratching mummy' doesn't it complicate things a bit much? It feels that way to me. But the violent attacks while I'm taking him to time out infuriate me, and are completely unacceptable. He does it every time, and I don't know how to address it. He thinks it's hilarious, and it makes my blood boil. He's a good boy most if the time, but I really don't know how to get him to stop playing up on the journey to the naughty chair...

Just lump it all together but don’t react until you get to the step. Also - hold his arms down so he can’t hit you. Restrain him and say ‘no, I know you’re angry but we don’t hit, I won’t let you hit me’.

Then at the step say - you’re here for hitting and spitting it’s not nice.

All that said I wouldn’t bother - I don’t think it’s a great punishment for such a young child - too complicated.

What’s wrong with ‘no spitting, if you spit again you’ll have to play over here’ and just moving him away?
