Obsessive toddler!

Hi all I'm hoping someone can help me please?

DD turns 4 in November and we're really struggling with her behaviour. She is obsessed with being a different character and refuses to be herself. No exaggerating she literally will not go by her name and is a different character as and when it suits her but never herself and is also referring herself as a boy because of the character she is currently obsessed with.
For example we could give her the thing she has been wanting for ages or a huge pile of presents and say this is only for her and she would point blank refuse it because we won't call her by her character name so she'd rather just chuck it all in the bin and still be that character.
She's starting school soon and she's upset that the teachers are calling her by her name and not the characters so she's refusing to go.
This is becoming very distressing for everyone around her because of the melt downs if someone calls her by her actual name to the point where people darent speak to her.
Another thing is the characters she's being is taking over her life, you cannot have a conversation with her unless it's based on that subject if you mention anything else she just acts as if you're invisible or does a voice in the character trying to change the subject.
If we have play doh or kinetic sand out she will find a way to turn that into the thing she likes.

We're really struggling with this now and don't know where to turn.
Does anyone think there's anything to worry about?

Thank you so much for replying to me I re read that after I calmed down and was worried no one would understand what I was going on about. Will definitely phone the doctors first thing.
