Been through this one so many times. 3 daughters with long hair. Nightmare. Finally found solution last year. Tee Trea Oil. Get a bowl of warm water and put pure tee trea oil in it. Wet comb through hair and leave it on for as long as you can. Wash out and then smother head with conditioner and go through hair with nit comb. Should get out some dead ones. Do it every 3 nights until you get no more lice out and it will be ages before they come back! Worked for us.

You can get the nitty gritty comb on prescription. I don't know about Hedrin. When I have used a lotion on dsd I have got it on prescription though.

Just want to shop "Hedrin" as totally useless. I spent £25 on the B*!!? stuff to treat my family, followed the instructions to the letter... a day later, our hairdresser discovered a live louse in my DD's hair... v. embarrassing. DO NOT waste your money on Hedrin. As a seasoned, and now skint, mum of 3 I would agree with the combing advice. There is also a mix of essential oils you can buy online called "nitmix" which you can add to any good leave in conditioner which seems to stun the little critters making them easier to comb out. Comb, comb, comb and comb again, and don't waste your money lining the pockets of the chemical giants.
