Hi - first post from me. My daughter is 9 and 4 months - she's 141cm tall and weighs in at 6 stone. She is I'm sure starting puberty - has the start of breasts (recently complaining of pain in them), gets greasy hair and blackheads etc. To me when undressed she has some rolls around her belly but when dressed she looks completely normal size - ie not skinny but certainly not fat. She's what my mum would call....'well covered'. It's really only around her tummy that she's carrying the weight but this is causing no end of problems with clothes. I've just bought her aged 10-11 plus size skirt in M&S, she had aged 14 shorts from Gap for our summer holidays and I've just bought her age 11-14 crop tops/ bras in M&S. She's getting to an age where the clothes in New Look and River Island are beginning to appeal to her but their cut entirely wrong for the shape she currently is - cropped jumpers and skinny rib dresses are not designed for her current shape (and also she's my baby and I don't want her dressing so grown up just yet). I don't think she needs to go on a diet but I do want to make sure that if this isn't just a puberty thing that her weight maintains while she grows taller as I don't want this to be a problem for her when she gets more aware of how things fit. Any ideas? She's not sporty but has started latin/ ballroom dancing once a week and enjoys cycling and swimming though we don't do it as often as we should - there's always so much going on after school that there's no time for trips to the park or evening swimming. Perhaps we should try and make time....She eats loads of fruit and veg and salad - she does have a sweet tooth which I regulate - but she's spent a lot of time with my mum this summer - once for 9 days and currently there for a 12 night stay - during her first visit she put on 3lbs as my mum is a feeder (despite me asking her to toe the line with the treats and she's always on at me that I need to cut down what I eat). DD can sometimes suffer with a low self esteem so I want to make sure she feels as confident as possible in all aspects of her life and while being slim isn't everything, she's surrounded by some particularly skinny, athletic girls in her class - it's only a matter of time before she becomes aware of this. thx for listening.

Well if you pop your data into the NHS Bmi calculator she looks to be at the top end of healthy weight so I wouldn't be super worried at this age- she may be due to shoot upwards if she's at the start of puberty.
You are right to be aware of it though and to keep an eye- perhaps just try and make more time for activity - would she play a team game now like netball or hockey?
