Worried about 18 month old dd

My dd is 18 months, she was born at 35 weeks so her actual age is just coming up to 17 months.
She is walking and climbing etc but she seems behind in communication skills.

She doesn't point
She says no words
She doesn't indicate what she wants or needs at all whether that's pointing or taking me to show me.
Doesn't follow basic instructions such as " give me your shoe " " pass me your book "
Doesn't respond to where is mummy etc

She does wave bye bye
She does clap is ask.

But she seems behind her peers and the no pointing really worries me.
As a result she's quiet whiney as she's can't communicate in any other way

Could you/have you tried teaching her any sign language? It might help with the frustration at least.

I don't know in premature babies what time they are supposed to hit milestones but might be worth a chat with the HV or GP?

Time - most likely, your DD is absolutely fine and will hit all the milestones in a few months. Every baby develops at his/her own pace and, of course, some are faster than others. Your DD waves good-bye and claps (which are very good signs). She is likely to catch up on other skills.

Having said that, it is perfectly understandable why you are worried (I know I would be). I would have had DD checked (even if it is just for the peace of mind). There are other red flags you might want to consider (e.g. repetitive behaviour aka "stimming", unusual manner of playing, etc). If everything else appears standard/"normal", there is probably nothing to worry about. However, I would still talk to GP/HV - even if there is a small probability something is not 100% right, it is better to know about it sooner rather than later.
