My ds has just turned 2 and seems to be going through a bout of separation anxiety. Not sure what to do. He is crying at nursery drop off and doesn't want to go to sleep without either being cuddled to sleep or someone staying with him. This wouldn't be a problem but he's taking a long, long time to go down, sometimes an hour. He is very tired and yawning but won't go to sleep. Does anyone have any advice?

Has anything changed lately? Between 2 and 2.5 their back teeth come through. Could it be teething?

My son is 19 months and going through the same thing. We used to be able to do bedtime routine and put him down in his cot and he would happily go to sleep on his own (only when husband did it interesting, he would cry if I did the nighttime routine) Now he cries and cries unless we sit with him and it can take up to two hours for him to fall asleep. This has been going on for two weeks now and it's worrying and exhausting. He's been fine at nursery (touch wood) but has been getting very upset and running for the door when we have been out to our regular activities - music class, library etc. He also won't play by himself for a second and is constantly following me around and pulling me down to be next to him. I do think it's separation anxiety, but I have no idea how to handle it. It's so tiring... So no advice, but following hopefully for some tips! I hope it gets better for you soon.

Must be a developmental thing around this age, as DD2 (20 months) has been the same for the last month or so. She's become really clingy during the day too and throws a massive strop if anyone dares leave the room...

He has his top molars coming though but didn't have a problem with the bottom ones so I don't think it's that. He's moved up rooms in nursery though and no longer gets put in a cot for naps. They sleep in a group on mats and cushions on the floor, I think this may be part of the reason.
