Both started with the odd word just after 1 then floodgates didn't open until 2.5 yrs

Ds was about 2.9 when words started to come but 3 before he could be understood or had more than a handful of words.
Dd was about 18 months (maybe a bit earlier)when words started coming and now she's 2 (just turned)she has a pretty big vocabulary and is talking in sentences.

2.3 DD currently being spoken to in English, French and Hebrew so interesting to see how this one develops.
Not talking in sentences yet but speech is roughly 50 English 40 Hebrew 10 french

She was saying the odd word from 1. She's 19 months now and in the last 2 months it's really exploded and she says loads and very simple sentences.

Ds didn't say a lot till 22 months- he's 2 now and has a word for most things, and can speak 2 work sentences. This all happened very quickly - he's not talking fluently yet but making good progress.

My son is 2.4 and only started saying words a few months ago. Still on the basic single word stage but its definitely picking up quicker now.

It is totally normal for them to not speak till they are about 3, not in proper sentences anyway . I have three children. My eldest dd was 3 when she started speaking properly. My ds was 16 months, only it was his pronunciation that was the problem, and that did not stop being a problem till he started pre-school.

My 2.5 year old dd isn't talking yet either. She will come out with new words, but she will only say them once then give up. She is starting to come out with more, but it is such a slow process. My other two dc when they started talking that would be it, but it doesn't seem to be the case with my youngest.

I'm not worried about her speech in anyway because I know that as soon as she hits pre-school, there will be no stopping her. But she isn't 3 till febuary next year, and she doesn't start playschool till the term after she turns 3. We aren't entitled to free funding because my partner works.

The problem I have is between now and then. She is constantly screaming all day because she can't communicate how she feels. I feel sorry for my other 2 dcs because they never get a look in when dd is in one of her foul moods.

I hope you don't worry too much. It is perfectly natural for your 2 yo not to be talking yet.

18 months old DD has no words at all yet just babbling

Thank you for starting this thread.

DS is 18 months and only says 'Dada'. Nothing else. I have been feeling like he is behind his peers. Reading some of the above replies has really reassured me.

First word (balloon) on first birthday. Had 80 single words at his 20 month check (ex prem checkups) first sentence just before 2. Could hold a little back and forth conversation by 2.5 years.
