my ds is quite bossy, the teachers at his pre-school have mentioned (when I've asked how his behaviour is)that he is a leader and the other children tend to follow him.He is one of the oldest and is a confident child but I do worry that he is too cocky and bossy sometimes.
How can I help him to control his bossy urges,if I find it irritating when I watch him playing I'm sure the other children will eventually.

I think I wouldn't interfere too much. His teachers will know ways to encourage situations in class where he doesn't dominate and his peers will tell him or go off if he gets too much. If they're sticking with him they can't be too bothered with his leadership. I think the only thing I'd do is encourage him to listen to others and look out for other kids who aren't so confident.

I think it's a great asset, and his teachers obviously aren't too worried or they'd have said.

Hi ggirl

my dd1 is a very strong leader she has everyone following her around and doing as they are told. I think in life you have doers and followers. I don't discourage her at all I feel its good for a child to be forward thinking and taking control. Good life skills. Not a bully though dont like bully kids.

No, thankfully.

ggirl, worry not - when he goes to school he will be mixing with 4 and 5 yr old girls and they will teach him the meaning of bossy

He won't know what's hit him......girls seem to grow the bossy gene when they start school

thanks, think I will encourage the caring side as suggested.

I'm sure school will give him pause for thought! There's so much more independence required, so few adults around, that school does seem VERY much harder work than pre-school for them. i expect he'll be exhausted by it all, though if he really is a natural leader he may give the girls a run for their money.....good for him!

he has a 15 yr old sister ,and is used to being bossed around by her and her friends, think its older boys that may do the trick.
