My son 2yrs 4m has just had his 2 year check. He did not speak until he was 2 & has came on so much in the past 4 months & can now manage 3 letter sentences (just) he has always loved playing with doors, to the point where I would say that he is obsessed. He does not like it if they are left open etc.

He is being referred for speech and language, but she if also referring him because of "worrying traits" she said he shows signs of "Echolalia" and "repetitive personality" and "bad social skills" but would not elaborate much.

I've done the obvious google search and it's all very dramatic, I don't feel like he's autistic etc, he's jut a strange one :)

Has anyone else's child had similar issues and been fine when older? Sorry if I sound ignorant or anything, I'm still a bit in shock/worried x

Hello.

Have you done the m-chat? It's the standard screening test for autism and could be useful/interesting.

I'm not a doctor or an expert (and if I would I couldn't diagnose over the internet). I've no idea if your HV is over-reacting, just being cautious, or picking up on some serious concerns. But there are a lot of children and adults with autism who with the right support go on to lead happy, useful, interesting, fulfilled, loved and loving lives. It's also worth saying that three word sentences at 2 years and 4 months is pretty decent.

This isn't normal, but it is awesome:

Thank you :) will look through it all now.

He can do 3 worded sentences, but they are always the same words if that makes sense. Then he repeats them throughout the day, even when he's going to sleep lol

Thank you for the links x
