Just curious

My ds was out of his by about 18 months and since then has eaten all meals at the table sitting on the big chair.

Pizza hut is the only place i put him in a high chair

I think my dd was a similar age, she's nearly 3 now and I can't remember when we last used a high chair.

themaskedpoEAster · 22/03/2007 15:16

excellent!

dd was about 2.5 .. mostly because this was how old she was when we bought our dining suite

however when we are out for a meal and they have those 'wooden-type' ones, we will more often than not pop her in them as it keeps her 'static' - well sometimes

MrsPhilipGlenister · 22/03/2007 15:16

DS3 escaped from his at 18 months.

The others carried on for longer, until they were two, I think.

bozza · 22/03/2007 15:17

DD was out of the proper high chair at 12 months but has been in a booster ever since - she is nearly 3 and quite small. Do you not find your children low down or do you use cushions? DS is 6 and still has a cushion on his chair at home.

hunkermunker · 22/03/2007 15:17

DS1 loves highchairs.

He's still in his at home (he's 2.11) - but it's a Tripp Trapp so doesn't count.

He'll go in them out and about too. Asks to go in them!

bobsmum · 22/03/2007 15:17

WE switched to a booster seat for dd at about the same age - dd wouldn't even be able to see her plate if she sat on an adult sized chair. Ds would have fallen off an adult seat at that age - no co-ordination at all so didn't see a need to force him to change until he was able. Got a second hand Trip Trapp when he was 2.5 and that's been great.

nailpolish · 22/03/2007 15:17

about the same age too

we were at a christmas lunch (at christmas funnily enough!) and i saw a girl who HAD to have been around 4

she got in and out the chair herself and played with my 2 dds

i had ot pick my jaw off the floor

mm22bys · 22/03/2007 15:18

Our DS is almost 3 and we still use a highchair.

It is exactly that though - a high chair! He sits at the table with us (we took the tray off the highchair months ago), and we don't strap him in.

An option would be a booster seat, but I don't really see what the difference is between that and what we are doing at the moment....or have him sit at the table on a cushion, but I don't see the point of that either.

Is this wrong?

bozza · 22/03/2007 15:18

For DD it is really about position because we don't fasten her in.

Boobsgonesouth · 22/03/2007 15:19

we used tripp trapp high chairs for both our DC...and they still use them now - DS is 6 and DD is 4....really comfortable to sit on too (even for my big bum !!)

bozza · 22/03/2007 15:20

DD wants to go in highchairs when we are out and it does my head in. I have to go find it, drag it over, clean it, and then try and get DD (who is getting a bit big) into it. I try to discourage it if it is a tray type one, don't mind ones that pull up to the table.

ScottishThistle · 22/03/2007 15:20

Current charge been in a Tripp-Trapp since she was around 16mths I think.

hunkermunker · 22/03/2007 15:21

Why so shocked, Naily?

DS1 asks to use a highchair, asks to be strapped in too. He likes to do things properly!

ProfYaffle · 22/03/2007 15:21

My dd is quite small but doesn't have a problem seeing her food on the table, drinks can be a bit hair raising so I generally keep a hand on her glass to stop her tipping it up too far.

bozza · 22/03/2007 15:21

No difference between high chair at table and booster really mm22bys - except for our highchair took up half the kitchen and kept getting food stuck in various crevaces. However my nephew who is 2.1 still uses it.

bobsmum · 22/03/2007 15:21

mm22bys - don't think there's a problem there. The only reason we switched to a booster for dd was because her big brother was still using the TRip Trapp (and still is at 4.5) and her high chair didn't have a removeable tray.

Until then I was swinging her above my head and "feeding" her legs down into the chair - nightmare! If we had a different high chair she would still be in it at almost 2.

I have noticed on a few occasions that my children are actually not the same size as an adult

powder28 · 22/03/2007 15:23

About 15 months

amidaiwish · 22/03/2007 15:24

at 17 months when she got stuck in it and i had to call the fire brigade and they broke it.

and

powder28 · 22/03/2007 15:25

Except in restaurants, he'd be off like a shot if we didnt!

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 15:26

DH is 20 mths and still uses his tripp trapp but we took the straps and baby kit off a few months ago so he uses it just as a normal chair now. When we are out he mostly uses a normal chair..unless we need to keep him static that is!

Washersaurus · 22/03/2007 16:21

Obviously meant DS!

bozza · 22/03/2007 16:22

I have had no problem keeping my children at the table, they are very much stayputters. Both invariably the last to leave the table at parties. DD was still on the jam sandwiches when every other child had done jelly/ice-cream, cakes and run off to play at the last party.

Mercy · 22/03/2007 16:29

ds was about 2.5, dd about 3.

They have both got the junior high chairs from Ikea now, which I can certainlly recommend (although ds' isn't as good quality )

sweetkitty · 22/03/2007 16:36

DD1 came out hers about 4-5 months ago so she was 2.4-2.5yo. I got fed up having to unstrap her when I heard "Mummy I neeeeeeeeeeeeeed a pee pee" it was a booster type seat thing, DD2 14 months is now in it I have thrown the high chair in the shed. I do not know what possessed me to buy one of those huge plastic contraptions.

DD1 was a bit of a nightmare at first but we all eat at the table, no TV and she is told off for getting down and playing now she sits up fine I think she's scared she misses anything.

yomellamoHelly · 22/03/2007 16:44

Ds1 has only ever had a booster. BVefore he could sit I used a bouncy chair. Hate the size and general ugliness of highchairs.
