6 months and not rolling over

Basically my DD is nearly 6 months and won't roll over. At about 4.5 months she suddenly seemed to 'get it' and rolled over 5 times in one day..... since then absolutely nothing! In all other respects she seems on track, except for her sitting which I gather is extremely good for her age (by 5.5 months she could sit independently for extended periods - 30 mins plus). Should I be worried if she doesn't start rolling or is it just one of those things that some babies just aren't that interested in? She did seem absolutely determined to master sitting up - it clearly bothered her not to have a good view Smile

Don't worry about it! Don't think either of mine were that bothered about rolling! Now 5 and 3 and they r very normal and healthy! Smile

Don't worry.

If there was something not quite right, there would be other things she couldn't do and she wouldn't have been able to do it five times in one day.

The problem is that nobody gives the baby the checklist Smile

I have a friend whose DD didn't ever roll. She's now a perfectly typical 2.5 year old!

Thanks all! It did seem like lack of interest - she hates 'tummy time' too! But wanted to check Grin

I think it depends what they want to do. My dd, just coming up to 10months wants to stand and walk. She's too small but just wants to hold your hands and walk around with you. She can sit but doesn't love it and flops back carefully when she's fed up. She can roll but that led to some disturbed nights early on so I didn't love it.

Now she's doing an army drag that only involves one knee instead of a traditional crawl. However I have never seen a baby so good with her hands. Her dexterity is amazing.

They go at their own pace, I wouldn't worry too much.

DS was able to roll frequently at 5m and used it as his method of transport for months. He's now 16m and only learned to crawl recently, long after starting cruising.

What I mean to say is not to get too caught up in the order things are meant to happen, comparing your child to others and what age they should be doing stuff at.

It's easier said than done and I've had to wait a long time for some of these milestones - I have to confess I've been pouring all over Google - but honestly she'll be able to roll by the time she's ten so it'll happen sometime between now and then so what's the point worrying?

That the philosophy I'm trying to take anyway!

My older girl never rolled. I waited for it, then I gave up waiting and just got on with a climbing, running, jumping toddler. She can obviously roll now because she's 6, but by the time she did it, it was so irrelevant I barely noticed. She walked at 11 months. Hated tummy time.

My daughter HATED tummy time. It was so embarrassing, I used to try all the time. My health visitor suggested I try to make it part of the routine, and do it several times a day for brief periods, so we did it after every nappy change and she would start screaming the instant I laid her on her front. I tried everything (trust me, I googled, I asked everyone I knew who had a baby, I pestered the health visitor), I couldn't find any way to make her more tolerant of it. i used to take her to baby classes, and the leader would say "this is a great opportunity for some tummy time" and I would dread how the other mums would look at my immobile, non-rolling baby.
At 8 months, she suddenly stopped minding it. No idea why. She was rolling in both directions two weeks later, and commando crawling two weeks after that.
At nearly 10 months now, I still worry a bit because she isn't crawling "properly" and can't get to a sitting position on her own or pull up. But her standing and cruising are getting pretty good. My point is, she suddenly changed and learned a lot of new skills very quickly - perhaps your baby will be similar

Witchend · 22/07/2017 20:07

Dd1 did exactly that. She then never saw the point in rolling until she was crawling at 10 months. Once she was crawling she did it to get on her front to crawl.
She's 16yo now and can roll fine. Wink
