Toys to aid 8 month old development

Hi all!

Just wondering if anyone has any toy recommendations for 8 month olds that are particularly helpful to their development or just enjoyable for them at this age?

I've seen a lot that look fab but as he is beginning to pull up, crawl and can sit unsupported, I wondered if there's any toys people found their little ones particularly enjoyed or that helped them along? I've seen a few sort of tables with activities on the top which I was thinking about!

Thanks in advance!

I made a wooden toddler-size table when our DS was about that age. Duplo is one of the best toys : learn colour, shapes, construction, trucks, animals, characters, Duplo Number Train.

Personally I would advise against battery/electronic toys - plenty of time for them in years to come.

Keep a 'diary' or notebook of activities and progress - you never imagine how quickly the years go by!

Whatever you get he'll prefer to empty the bin, play with your keys, pull all the books off the bookshelves (and eat them), bang the pans together and the best toy of all will be the cardboard box a "real" toy came in. Grin

Choose things that look sturdy and you like the look of, but don't worry about aiding development at that age because any toy will help them with hand eye coordination and discovering the world.

Thank you both that's fab!

Duplo I hasn't actually considered but will definitely look into! I've heard building blocks are quite enjoyable for them! We have a little book that's a sort of diary. I'm already noticing the time going along so quickly and I'd be very grateful if it would slow down slightly!

You're definitely right there actually! The Sky remote and mobiles are his personal favourite Grin

What it is with DS you see is that he can sit very well unsupported but unless he has something to focus on whilst sitting, he will just flop himself down haha! So I just wanted something to keep his attention whilst sitting, the more he does it the better I'm assuming! Duplo would be fab for this I'm thinking!

Also, he is a little too obsessed with his jumperoo (I'm attempting unsuccessfully to limit his time in it). He pulls up but just tries to jump! So I was thinking a wooden activity table might allow him to realise he can stand without attempting to jump!

Thank you for the suggestions! ----
