I thought it might be good to get an idea of just what books are out there and what age group they appeal to.
DD is 2 and a quarter and currently entranced by 'Whiff - the big, fat, smelly, beautiful baby'
She also loves her Kiwi counting book.

shrub meant to say we saw a wonderful wonderful production of Cloudland last year, well worth seeing if you get the chance.

Lots of favourites listed here - my dd's all time favourite is Wishing Moon - it was ds' so we have had it longer than her but is the one book she asks to be read to her even now at 7. It seems to be a comfort thing, if she is feeling poorly or very tired she will get that book and curl up on my knee. Other favourites were Six Dinner Sid, Ginger, The Usborne farm stories, Mog stories, the Enid Blyton compilation fairy tale books, Old Bear stories, Alfie and Annie Rose stories and lots of the Walker books that I can't remember the titles of.

shrub, yes, how sweet and lovely was it, great music too. We see quite a lot of children's theatre and that was one of the very best.

lots of old favourites there. here's one that might not enchant your DD but fascinates my DS, as it did my DH when he was little, and also my brother.

Richard Scarry's "What Do People Do All Day". It explains how things work, and even I learned a lot from it!

All the "Harry and the Dinosaur" books are huge hits here...

DS loves Green Eggs and Ham (probably because I have such fun reading it) and the Very Hungry Caterpillar (he loves to put his fingers through the holes and can be entertained for almost an hour with it).

A less well-known but brilliant book is Go To Bed, Doodlehead! by Ian Whybrow and Jude Wisdom. You know a book's great when you find yourself stealing lines from it to use in daily life!

My two dd's have been going to the library every week for the past 3 years and have just borrowed the best book ever - it's called "Shhh!" by Sally Grindley and Peter Utton. Even I loved it and I'm nearly 40! My dd1 (6) took it to school and the teacher read it out and all the class loved it.
