... the girls in her class kept telling her she should and going on about it while getting ready for gym?

She has grown two tiny bumps like half glace cherries.

Aw bless pointydog ... my dd1 is nearly ten and has similar bumps - but her class goes from 7-12 year olds so I don't think she is under the same amount of peer pressure

Agree with Megg - go for a crop top style. If she is feeling self-conscious (whatever the reason) then it's the right time to get one.

pointydog · 19/03/2007 20:42

hmm yeah, I think you're both right. part of me felt annoyed that such young girls should go on in such a ridiculous way. But getting some of those crop top things isn't the end of the world.

my sisters 13 and has nothing up top, she wears a bra - not for support, but because everyone else has one! bless

shouldbedoingsomethingelse · 19/03/2007 20:47

when my DD was 9 she was put under a lot of pressure about her chest(she was as flat as a pancake) so we got the crop top style and she was fine with that.

pointydog · 19/03/2007 20:48

The pressure is quite something, isn't it.

How things have changed. I remember getting my first bra (was a 32A) - absolutely HATED it! Remember feeling so irritated by the thing - constantly wantd to just rip the bolldy thing off. But then I'm wierd about the elastic waistband of tights and roll neck jumpers too. Hate feeling constricted.

Can't get away without a bra now, alas.

colditz · 19/03/2007 21:00

Yes.

I'd buy her a sports bra, so it will give her a bit of room for growth, as you may be surprised how quickly she does grow now she has started.

Aloha · 19/03/2007 21:01

Petit Bateau do these really lovely, soft bra-cropped top hybrids that are pretty, supportive but don't look sexy or grown up.

colditz · 19/03/2007 21:01

My first bra was a 28aa

it was too small, and I refused point blank to wear it, so mum took me to have me measured

The nice shop lady promptly gave me a 32b and told mum off! She was 6 months too late, bless her, I had grown while she wasn't looking.

colditz · 19/03/2007 21:04

this sort of thing?

Aloha · 19/03/2007 21:08

this is sweet, I think

They also do a plain white more bra-like design, very soft and simple.

Aloha · 19/03/2007 21:10

I like this

Gingermonkey · 19/03/2007 21:16

I'm 32 and mine are still AA, I certainly don't need a bra but I wear one! My mum took me to Primark when I was the last one in the class to get a bra and bought me a cheap and cheerful, plain, simple bra that made me happy (It still fitted me at university - I kept it for years!) and got the other girls off my back too. Sometimes it's best to just give in a little, there's nothing worse than being teased about your boobs - believe me, I remember the taunts I got far, far too well. If it was my DD, I'd let her choose something she likes, she'll probably choose a bra and realise they are uncomfortable and go back to a crop top before you get to the till. Good luck!

suedonim · 19/03/2007 21:20

My dd wanted something to cover her 'goosebumps'. Vests are much too hot here so I got her crop tops. M&S ones are ok, though not exciting, and don't wash well as they're not cotton. Debenhams have some by J Conran and Pineapple which are nice. Next had tarty slogans so they were a no-no.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 19/03/2007 21:23

My dd has 'cherry bumps' she's 13 so is definitely in the minority in her class. Some of the girls are better endowed than me. She wears th elittle crop tops like those on Aloha's first link.

pointydog · 19/03/2007 22:11

oo thanks for the links. Is petit bateau online/catalogue only?

Dd says she never ever wants a bra but I think after today, she'd rather go with the crowd than not.

My 9 year old daughter was told by a friend if she doesn't start wearing crop tops she would get "grannyboobs"!

I think crop tops on a 9 year old is tarty, and said if her friend keeps going on about it tell her that, but bless her she said " I don't like saying that word"
She is as flat as a pancake and very thin anyway. If she wants to protect her modesty there are some very pretty strappy vests in places like vertbaudet or redoute, but thankfully at this moment she is still a little innocent and these things don't worry her.

Skribble · 19/03/2007 23:33

I just have to think back to what it was like for me when it came to these things, and how important it all seemed then. Girls can be so evil as well. I remember getting very upset because Mum wouldn't buy me the bra with the right kind of strap accross the back that everyone else seemed to be wearing, mine seemed so different from everyone elses.

Aloha · 19/03/2007 23:35

If you google Petit Bateau bra you will find online suppliers in the UK - I used the US site as the pix are better!

I don't mind an 11 or 12 year old having crop tops or in fact a child that has started to develop, but not my little 9 years old. The grannyboobs "friend" is one of those little queenbees and I won't be dictated to by her.

deaconblue · 20/03/2007 08:49

My niece who is 10 and a bit has bra tops. She only has bumps, but they show through her school blouse and she doesn't want to wear a vest anymore. I think the little crop top bra style things are totally fine for young girls.

Biglips · 20/03/2007 08:50

i had bumps when i was 10 and wore a bra - was the first girl to wear one in juniors...my mum bought me for me one day
