My 9yr old has never had shoes with laces - until now. and she's ashamed that she cant tie them, its not her fault of course, she's never needed to, thanks to velcro! she needs to learn now, but she cant seem to get the last bit tight enough to stay done up. Anyone got any ideas?!

My son is left handed and dyslexic. Finally mastered laces at secondary school....his best friend taught him......I'd given up years ago {grin]

Fizzbuzz, just replied to your message on reading thread. How old is your son, mine is left hanede too.

fizzbuzz · 19/03/2007 20:47

Ds is 13 It was sooooo difficult trying to teach a left handed dyslexic, when you are right handed.

TBH I still tie them for him sometimes now

Will go and look at your answer now!

fizzbuzz · 19/03/2007 20:49

Urmmm can't find your answer......Have I now lost it completely?

pointydog · 19/03/2007 20:52

hpw long has he been trying? Giove him at least two weeks

DeviousDaffodil · 19/03/2007 20:53

DS's are both lefties and as a rightie I have no idea how to show them how to tie laces.

colditz · 19/03/2007 20:57

tie your first knot. Then make each lace into a loop. Tie the loops together.

peanutbutterkid · 19/03/2007 20:58

I am almost 40 and still struggle to get the laces tight enough. Velcro shoes rock, roll on sandals weather.

princesscc · 19/03/2007 21:02

I taught my Rainbows to tie laces, as requested by one of the parents the other week. I used two different coloured ribbons, that way you can see which is the loop and which is the pull through bit more easily.

fizzbuzz · 19/03/2007 21:05

We were taught to tie them at school when I was little. The teacher had a big card dog, with a shoe in it's mouth, and laces were threaded through the shoe. The whole class learnt at the same time.

No OFSTED then you see.....
