totally normal! Don't pay any attention to your friends and family as it is within the 'normal' realms of development right up to the age of 2 years. If your dd didnt walk until 19 months then you might well find that this little one will be the same - mine both walked at the same age.

I don't think your HV would be concerned, as lots of children don't walk until 18 months (and as you say your dd didn't).
However, if you are worried I would ring the HV. But, if you are not concerned about his development otherwise, tell them to bugger off!!

thanks..trying to encourage him but he just goes straight on his bum...I think he knowa he can get around faster by crawling iyswim..

also 2 of my friends DSs didnt walk until 18 months so it is not uncommon at all!

I know he is fine and it will just happen like it did with dd....

It's normal for a child of 17 months not to be walking. I have 3 girls and they walked at 21 months 18 months and 15 months. Late walking seems to run in our family

MyPartnerDavidFurnish · 19/03/2007 12:12

Nothing to worry about imo.

My DD is 2 in 2weeks and still not walking. We recently saw a community peadiatrician who was very reassuring (I posted a thread re this recently). The outcome was she will get there in her own time. I found it very worthwhile seeing the peadiatrician as although lots of people say not to worry, I think you inevitably do. Also people do comment, she is the only one in her group at nursery not walking etc so it helps if you can confidently answer them. The peadiatrician I saw said she sees children from 18mnths, and follows up until they are walking (we go back in 2mnths). It may help you to see your GP and ask to be referred.

my sisters dd is 17mths and not walking, she was referred by the health visitor and shes just found out shes double jointed and that double jointed babies dont usually walk til they are around 2yrs when their muscles become stronger

My dd1 was 20 months before she stood without bow legs, and 22 months before she put one foot in fornt of the other, nothing wrong with her just a lazy baby.

Wouldn't worry
